When automotive sales are tanking, e-rickshaws are witnessing a strong growth — growing at 16% CAGR — as it has emerged as a cheap last mile commute in smaller towns and cities. The e-rickshaw market, currently 4 lakh units is expected to grow to a million units by 2025, a study on Wednesday said. “Because the cost of operation of an e-rickshaw is much cheaper (than other fuel options) , there is higher demand when the market is in a crunch,” Chetan Maini, co-founder, Sun Mobility said. However non-commercial vehicles don’t have the same advantage.

Now, KSRTC issues tender for 250 e-busesedit

Tapping green energy, the transport corporation will induct 250 electric buses to its fleet for services in intercity routes. The tender for e-buses has been reissued by the KSRTC, following poor response to the previous bid. The non-AC e-buses, to be procured on wet lease, will be operated in different zones — 100 in Thiruvananthapuram zone, 100 in Kochi zone and 50 in Kozhikode zone of the KSRTC.
