Google Stadia Will Use AMD GPUs but Not CPUs, AMD Confirmsedit
Google confirmed that its Stadia game streaming service uses GPUs manufactured by AMD at the time of its official launch announcement at this year’s GDC conference. However, the company was not as forthcoming regarding the CPUs that it has decided to use in its Stadia datacentres. The only information released was that the CPUs would be based on the x86 architecture which means that Intel and AMD were the only possible manufacturers. Curiously, the description of a “custom 2.7GHz hyper-threaded x86 CPU with AVX2 SIMD and 9.5MB L2+L3 cache” CPU strongly indicated that Intel is the manufacturer, since Hyper-Threading is an Intel trademark. AMD uses the term Simultaneous Multi-Threading, or SMT.

AMD Says Not to Count on Exotic Materials for CPUs in the Next Ten Years, Silicon Is Still Computing’s Best Friendedit
AMD’s senior VP of AMD’s datacentre group Forrest Norrod, at the Rice Oil and Gas HPC conference, said that while graphene does have incredible promise for the world of computing, it likely will take some ten years before such exotic material are actually taken advantage off. As Norrod puts it, silicon still has a pretty straightforward – if increasingly complex – path down to 3 nanometer densities. And according to him, at the rate manufacturers are being able to scale down their production nodes further, the average time between node transitions stands at some four or five years – which makes the jump to 5 nm and then 3 nm look exactly some 10 years from now, where Norrod expects ...

Gaming NVIDIA Releases DLSS Support For Anthem; Claims 40 Percent Boost In Performanceedit
NVIDIA’s RTX GPUs are based on their new Turing architecture that brought real-time ray tracing to consumers. Ray tracing is a technique used to render lighting in an environment as it should in the real world. This means the environment will be illuminated by the light source and all the light rays bouncing off the objects. And using NVIDIA’s RTX GPUs, all of this will be done in real-time. However, real-time ray tracing isn’t exclusive to NVIDIA’s RTX GPUs, since Crytek recently demonstrated the same on an AMD Vega 56 GPU.

HP Envy x360 review: a compact 2-in-1 that tries to do too much, and mostly succeedsedit
“Intel inside” has become more than a marketing slogan. While the tagline was created back in 1991, it still seems to work well as a seal of approval for deciding which PC or laptop to buy. That’s not to say that the California-based chipmaker doesn’t face any competition (of course, on the mobile side, Intel has left the turf open for the likes of Qualcomm and MediaTek). AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) has been trying to rival Intel’s chips for a long time, and its latest Ryzen processors comes quite close. Perhaps that’s why quite a few laptop makers are opting for AMD’s Ryzen chips.

The bigger issue for Intel, however, is that memory-chip technology hasn’t been advancing as quickly as more profitable gear. The limitations of memory chips are starting to lessen the value customers see in buying, say, Intel’s lucrative server chips, threatening a central profit centre.

At $220, the GTX 1660 is built to a cost, and NVIDIA has made sure it has ample headroom to cut costs further in the future if AMD comes out with competitive products in this segment, such as the fabled “Navi.” It is carved out of the same 12 nm “TU116” silicon as the GTX 1660 Ti with fewer CUDA cores and slower 8 Gbps GDDR5 memory replacing 12 Gbps GDDR6. NVIDIA is hence looking to offer a product that’s incrementally faster than the GTX 1060 6 GB and anything AMD has to offer in this segment, which can still deliver on Full HD gameplay with maximum quality.
