Cloud gaming set to become popular: AMD’s Marinkovic (Proactive)edit

Cloud gaming is all set to take over the world by storm in the coming years, feels Sasa Marinkovic, Director of AMD’s Gaming Marketing. “Cloud based services not only enable cross platform gaming between PC and consoles, but also allow running games on smartphones. Our recent partnership with Google’s Project Stream would do just that by enabling Google to push the edge of computing through the cloud, allowing PC games on the cloud to be run in data centres and then streamed on the users’ machine Marinkovic told DH in an email interview.

Intel Currently in Trouble With 14nm CPU Shortageedit

On the other hand, there has been a boost for AMD’s low-end laptop sales adding salt to Intel’s wounds. The stats shared by Mercury Research show a sharp increase in team red’s market share. Intel has also announced that their 10nm Ice Lake processors will begin mass production from Q3 2019. However, Digitimes research claim that Intel is currently having issues in the mass-production schedule. These shortages may prompt Intel to shift directly 7nm process henceforth.

Intel is rumored to refresh its high-end desktop (HEDT) platforms this Summer with new products based on the “Cascade Lake” microarchitecture. Intel now has two HEDT platforms, LGA2066 and LGA3647.  Elsewhere in the industry, and sticking with Intel, we’ve known since November 2018 of the existence of “Comet Lake,” which is a 10-core silicon for the LGA1151 platform, and which is yet another “Skylake” derivative built on existing 14 nm process. This chip is real, and will be Intel’s last line of defense against AMD’s first 7 nm “Zen 2” socket AM4 processors, with core-counts of 12-16.

Intel surpasses Samsung in semiconductor sales revenue, IHS saysedit

The declining market for semiconductors used in mobile handsets and enterprise servers led to a realignment in the company market-share ranking for semiconductor manufacturers. While Samsung led semiconductor sales for the past five quarters, Intel outpaced Samsung in the fourth quarter of 2018, according to IHS Markit. Intel’s semiconductor sales revenue reached US$18.4 billion in the fourth quarter, compared to US$15.8 billion for Samsung, IHS said. While quarter-over-quarter Intel semiconductor sales declined by 2.3% in the fourth quarter, Samsung fell 24.9%, IHS indicated.
