AMD Partner Sapphire To Stop Producing Radeon VII, To Wait For Naviedit
AMD unveiled its first 7nm mainstream GPU, the Radeon VII earlier this year to go against the flagship RTX cards from rival NVIDIA. It’s fair to say that the expectations were high for the Radeon VII, from both the company and the users. Radeon VII was supposed to be the NVIDIA alternative in the high-end market and honestly, it succeeded, to an extent. Sure, the card isn’t as powerful as its direct competitor, the NVIDIA RTX 2080, but it still is a very powerful GPU and has a place of its own in the high-end GPU segment.

Nvidia continues to steamroll through the GPU market with new Turing-based cards, it’s also shoring up a position as the value leader (AMD’s former sweet spot) with cards like the GeForce GTX 1660. Here’s a look at it versus the reference specs of the Radeon RX 590, AMD’s most comparable card. In terms of real-world pricing, though, the GTX 1660 at $219 or a little more falls between most models of the Radeon RX 590 and the older Radeon RX 580.

EVGA GTX 1660 XC Ultra 6 GB Reviewedit
At $220, the GTX 1660 is built to a cost, and NVIDIA has made sure it has ample headroom to cut costs further in the future if AMD comes out with competitive products in this segment, such as the fabled “Navi.” It is carved out of the same 12 nm “TU116” silicon as the GTX 1660 Ti with fewer CUDA cores and slower 8 Gbps GDDR5 memory replacing 12 Gbps GDDR6. NVIDIA is hence looking to offer a product that’s incrementally faster than the GTX 1060 6 GB and anything AMD has to offer in this segment, which can still deliver on Full HD gameplay with maximum quality.
