16-Core/32-Thread AMD 2nd Gen Ryzen Threadripper 2950X on Sale for $100 Lessedit

If you are a content creator or someone who’s into CAD modeling or rendering, then the AMD Ryzen Threadripper is what you should have in your system. The Intel equivalent of these chips are twice as expensive and still don’t come with as many PCIe lanes and L3 cache. Regardless of what you own, Newegg is selling AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper 2950X for $100 less than the retail price of $899 for a limited time duration of 24 hours.

Before Ryzen Microsoft considered each AMD Core Equal to 75% of an Intel Xeon Coreedit

Thanks to AMD’s Reddit thread, it has come to our attention that back in 2012 when AMD’s Opteron server processors were around, Microsoft would consider them to be 3/4th of a real (read Intel Xeon) CPU core. This is clearly mentioned in the company’s SQL Server 2012 Core Licensing guide that assigns a “Core Factor” of 0.75 to all AMD chips while the Intel Xeon parts all had a value of 1. According to the documentation, “The core factor is a multiplier used in calculating the number of core licenses you will need for a server with a given processor type. To simplify the Transition Report, focus on those servers containing more than 4 cores per processor.”

AMD Radeon Navi Driver for Linux Ready for Deploymentedit

It seems like AMD’s Radeon Navi GPUs might show up at Computex 2019 after all, with a possible release on 7/7/19 to mark team red’s shift to the 7nm manufacturing process. Phonorix has spotted a new open source driver for a GPU codenamed, “gfx1010” which will most likely be the highly anticipated Radeon product.

ASUS Laptops with GTX 1660 Ti And Ryzen Spotted on 3DMarkedit

Thanks to TUM_APISAK, who posted the 3DMark benchmarks on Twitter, we now have eyes on ASUS laptops that pair the green team’s graphics with the red team’s Ryzen 3 APU, which was revealed at CES earlier this year. ASUS has already revealed a Zephyrus G series laptop with the same pairing, the GA502. But the ones we see in the 3DMark results are the FX505DU and GU502DU models, referred to as Gamersky and Galaxy 5305 in the test respectively.

Powering this one is an 8th Gen i5, clocking in at 1.6Ghz, which is lower compared to other two listed above but packs a 2GB AMD Radeon 530 graphics card to balance the scale. Besides this, the Dell Vostro also shares the same RAM and battery capacity as the Acer Aspire E. The main difference comes down to its resolution, that at 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Intel: 10nm Ice Lake U Mobile CPUs in 2019, 10nm Xeon in 2020edit

Intel during its Q1 earnings call reaffirmed that the company’s 10nm chips are on track for deployment, later this year for notebooks and mobile platforms and in 2020 for Xeon based server platforms. The company claims that the 10nm CPUs will hit retail shelves in the fourth quarter of 2019 and there won’t be any shortages as initially predicted.
