AMD: 3rd Gen Ryzen CPUs Have 15% Higher IPC; MSI Says 13%edit

AMD announced the 7nm Ryzen 3000 CPUs on 27th May, claiming an IPC gain of 15% over the older Zen+ architecture at a lower TDP thanks to the efficient new process. However, today during MSI’s internal presentation, the slides claimed an IPC boost of 13%. So who is in the right? The likely case is that AMD has the correct figures, and MSI’s slides are either outdated or just the result of an error or miscommunication. Still, this is rather lousy for such a major announcement.

AMD’s new RDNA GPU Architecture has Been Exclusively Designed for Gamersedit

AMD announced its new RDNA GPU architecture at Computex, and the same is expected to power the next-gen Xbox and PS consoles, as well as the Navi GPUs, slated for a launch in July (7th most likely). According to team red, the Radeon RX 5700 will be up to 10% faster than rival NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 2070. The RDNA macro-architecture is special for many reasons, but the crux of it is that it has been specifically designed for gamers. This also means that AMD won’t abandon the GCN architecture, and the two will keep on evolving side-by-side.

AMD Stocks Rise by 10% After Ryzen 3000 and Epyc Rome Launch; Intel, NVIDIA Dropedit

AMD launched the 7nm Zen 2 based Ryzen processors on the first day of Computex to an overjoyed audience, and although people were expecting a 16-core part as well, the 15% IPC gain over Zen+ is enough, at least for now. AMD’s single core performance is now on par with Intel’s Coffee Lake, and well, the multi-threaded scores were higher already. Better gaming performance coupled with affordable pricing is just what the mainstream CPU market needed after years of stagnation.
