AMD B550 and A520 get PCIe 3.0 courtesy ASMediaedit

According to a report from DigiTimes, AMD has ordered ASMedia to produce their B550 and A520 chipsets. X570 chipsets have no confirmation yet but if all goes according to plan, ASMedia will be manufacturing those as well. While we know both B550 and A520 will be rocking the PCIe 3.0 standard, there’s still no confirmation that they won’t be featuring PCIe 4.0. They very well might find a way to support it thanks to its backwards compatibility with PCIe 3.0.

AMD is Targeting the Ryzen 7 3700X and Radeon RX 5700XT toward Intel Skylake and NVIDIA GTX 10 Series Usersedit

During the Computex and E3 press briefings, AMD compared its new Ryzen 3000 processors to Intel’s 8th and 9th Gen lineup and the Radeon RX 5700 GPUs to the lower-end NVIDIA RTX cards. The newer 7nm chips certainly seem faster than their competitors, but not by much, and no one will throw away their i9 (or RTX 2080) for a Ryzen 9 (or an RX 5700XT). AMD is well aware of that, so it’s enticing Intel and NVIDIA users who skipped the last upgrade cycle with its brand new architectures.

ASMedia-sourced AMD B550, A520 Chipset Motherboards Arrive in 2020edit

If a recent MSRP price-list leak is anything to go by, motherboards based on the AMD X570 chipset will cost a pretty penny, beating even Intel’s premium Z390 Express chipset on average motherboard pricing. Those looking for an affordable motherboard for the Ryzen 3000 series processors have the option of choosing existing AMD 400-series chipset based motherboards, and taking advantage of the USB BIOS Flashback feature that’s almost universally available on the AMD platform.

It appears that the Zen 2 based 7nm iteration of the Ryzen APUs will be coming soon. According to a report from WCCFTech, AMD will be releasing the Renoir APUs by the end of this year. Now before I proceed, let me point this out. The outlet calls it the “Raven Ridge refresh”, but it wouldn’t make much sense to backtrack to the 14nm Raven Ridge design after Picasso now that Zen 2 is out and doing really well too.

AMD claims its new Zen 2 based Ryzen 3000 processors boast a similar IPC gain of 15%, but this advantage is with regard to the Zen+ processors, not a five-year-old product stack.
