AMD Announces AMD Radeon Pro WX 3200edit

Today AMD quietly released is newest entry to professional lineup of Radeon graphics cards, called WX 3200. The new GPU is a low profile, single slot form factor card with focus on providing acceleration for CAD programs, even in the tiniest of workstations. The card, despite its size, packs quite the punch. It has 640 Stream Processors which put a total of 1.66 TeraFLOPs of compute performance, which is a reasonable performance for a card that has just under 50 W TDP and is powered entirely by PCIe connector. It has four DisplayPort 1.4 connectors which can provide output for up to four 4K monitors or single 8K monitor.

AMD Denies Report It Gave China ‘Keys to the Kingdom,’ Violated National Securityedit

A few years ago, AMD announced a major joint venture with a newly created Chinese subsidiary company. That venture, called THATIC, has helped fund some of AMD’s activities over the last few years (at the time the venture was announced, AMD declared a value of $293M). Last week, we covered the news that the US government had placed several of AMD’s partners on its Entity List, restricting the export of technology to these companies.

$329 AMD Ryzen 7 3700X Beats $999 Intel Core i9-9900Xedit

Yesterday, we saw the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X perform on par with Intel’s Core i9-9900K in Geekbench. No surprise, considering the Zen 2 CPUs’ advantage in multi-threaded workloads, but it once again proved that Intel’s CPUs are overpriced and by quite a bit. Today, we’ve gotten our hands on the PassMark benchmark of the 3rd Gen Ryzen 7 and can say it looks even better.

The U series of Intel’s Core series CPUs is the most popular amongst Thin and Light models in the market. Look for Intel CPU models such as Core i3-8145U, Core i5-8265U, and Core i7-8565U. If you prefer AMD instead, get a model with the latest Ryzen 3 or Ryzen 5 processor.

Nvidia ditches TSMC, confirms Samsung will manufacture its next-gen GPUsedit

Nvidia has confirmed that it has selected Samsung to manufacture its next-generation graphics processors. The latest development means the American company has dropped Taiwanese TSMC who has been a long-term foundry partner for its previous GPUs.  At a press conference in Seoul, Nvidia Korea chief Yoo Eung-Joon said that the company’s next generation of advanced GPUs will be mass produced by Samsung Electronics. Samsung will use its 7-nanometer extreme ultraviolet (EUV) process.
