New AMD Navi 14 leak hints at entry-level graphics cards in the futureedit
The AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT and RX 5700 are budget all-stars that really stand out in the mid range, but it looks like Team Red may be getting ready to drop a Navi 14 graphics processor (GPU) into the entry-level bracket. We’ve just seen a leak that suggests a Navi 14 GPU will be replacing the AMD Radeon RX 570 – one of the best budget graphics cards on the market right now. This all comes via leaker Komachi, who called out the leaked AMD graphics card on Twitter.
AMD Propels Past NVIDIA in Global Graphics Card Share Q2 2019, Courtesy of 7nm Navi GPUsedit
AMD has been having a good time these past few years in the CPU market thanks to the Zen microarchitecture. Before Ryzen 3000, the only segment where Intel was still ahead was gaming, but with the newer 7nm Zen 2 chips that’s all but history. The discrete graphics card market has been relatively quiet with AMD rebranding the same ol‘ Polaris and Vega architectures over and over again.

3rd Gen Ryzen 3000 Shortage Still a Thing, 2 Months After Launch, Driving Prices Upedit
If it’s too good to be true, it probably isn’t. AMD’s third-gen Ryzen 3000 lineup offers truly unbeatable value compared to similar Intel offerings. The Ryzen 5 3600 is such a strong contender that I’d just recommend it out of hand for any gaming rig, period. AMD’s made sure that the Ryzen 5 is well-stocked, but the higher-end Ryzen parts are still experiencing a major supply shortage. The Ryzen 7 3700X and Ryzen 9 3900X are in such short supply that prices remain well over MSRP.
Is AMD already killing off the Radeon VII?edit
If you’ve been considering buying one of AMD’s Radeon VII graphics cards, then it seems that you might need to move swiftly, as the GPU has reportedly been confirmed as end-of-life. As Tom’s Hardware notes, while AMD hasn’t actually said this directly, the company didn’t deny it in a statement responding to an enquiry, and French tech site Cowcotland cited industry sources who claim the GPU has reached end-of-life status.

According to AMD’s release notes, the performance gains are found when playing the game in DirectX 11 mode, compared to when running the previous drivers.
AMD Ryzen 5 3500 to Lack SMT, Takes on Core i5-9400edit
As AMD’s Ryzen 5 3500 processor is inching closer to launch, we learn more possible specifications of the chip AMD is designing to take on Intel’s popular Core i5-9400/9400F processor. Late July, we learned that the chip will be a 6-core model, breaking away from convention set by past generations, of the x500 Ryzen SKU being 4-core/8-thread. Thai PC enthusiast TUM_APISAK, who has a fairly high hit-rate on unreleased products, predicts that the 3500 will be six-core, but lack SMT (it will be 6-core/6-thread).

The True Advantage of AMD’s Next-Gen Chips Isn’t Power, It’s Platforms | Digital Trendsedit
There’s plenty of reason for AMD to be proud of the raw power in its new chips, especially its new 16-core gaming processor. But that’s only a part of the story coming out of AMD’s E3 announcements. When answering the question of why AMD really needed a new gaming chip architecture, it was all about cross-platform functionality. As it turns out, AMD just might be better set up to power games across vastly different platforms in this new era of gaming than either Intel or Nvidia.
AMD Radeon Navi 14 GPU Almost 50% Faster than the RX 570 in CompuBenchedit
The RDNA powered Radeon RX 5700 GPUs mark AMD’s return to the performance segment of the graphics card market after a noted absence from the scene. The 7nm Navi cards provide stiff competition to NVIDIA’s lower-end RTX Super cards all the while being cheaper. Sure, they lack the RTCores that the Turing architecture leverages for ray-tracing, but for now, that won’t be a big issue as there aren’t many RTX based games in the market.

AMD CEO Lisa Su: “CrossFire Isn’t a Significant Focus”edit
AMD CEO Lisa Su at the Hot Chips conference answered some questions from the attending press. One of these regarded AMD’s stance on CrossFire and whether or not it remains a focus for the company. Once the poster child for a scalable consumer graphics future, with AMD even going as far as enabling mixed-GPU support (with debatable merits). Lisa Su came out and said what we all have been seeing happening in the background: “To be honest, the software is going faster than the hardware, I would say that CrossFire isn’t a significant focus”.

AMD Ryzen 3000 CPUs Offer Smoother Gaming Performance than Older Intel Chipsedit
One of Intel’s core strengths has been lead the company’s CPUs have held in gaming, mainly due to higher IPCs which result in better single-core performance ultimately leading to higher frame rates. The delta has significantly reduced with Ryzen 3000 as the Zen 2 chips tout an IPC uplift of 16-20% across various applications, gaming included. AMD Game Cache which essentially is beefed up L3 cache also helps in elevating frame rates by a notable margin.

Highest Safe Temperature for the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT: Is 110C Really Fine?edit
Roughly a week ago, AMD published a blog post where they detailed about the enhanced thermal monitoring that they had introduced in the Radeon VII and subsequently carried over to Navi based Radeon RX 5700 series. Previously, much like Nvidia, the sensors on Radeon GPUs would only report the Edge temperature. This data, although helpful, was much lower than the actual temperatures in the hottest portions of the core.

One of the only drawbacks of AMD’s Ryzen 3000 processors is that these parts don’t overclock, like at all. Even the top-end parts are barely able to reach the advertised clocks. You can be an optimist here and go with the assumption that AMD has overclocked the Zen 2 chips out of the box to extract maximum performance for the mainstream consumer, or of course you can be one of the many disgruntled Redditors and accuse AMD of false marketing. Regardless, the end result is that the Ryzen 3000 CPUs have a complex scaling algorithm that is especially sensitive to temperature.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti Rumored to Launch by October 2019edit
So it appears that NVIDIA isn’t entirely done with the Turing architecture just yet, at least not completely. The GTX 16 series made most of AMD’s Polaris cards obsolete, however, the Radeon RX 570 is still a very relevant offering in the entry-level segment. Being cheaper than the GeForce GTX 1650, it offers similar and at times better performance than the lowest-end Turing part, thereby making it the better pick out of the two.
Asus’ ROG Crosshair VIII Impact X570 sets a new record: RAM overclocked to 5856MHz on Ryzen 3000 series CPUedit
This bodes well for Asus as it shows the high quality of the X570 Impact as well as the excellent memory support it has to offer. We do not expect this to 24×7 stable overclock, not even close, but it does show that 3600MHz+ frequencies are gettable. In terms of performance, according to AMD themselves, Ryzen performs best at 3600/3733MHz so you shouldn’t expect too much of a performance uplift.

Hot Chips 2019: The Hottest and Biggest Yetedit
There were two keynotes at this year’s Hot Chips conference, one given by AMD’s CEO, Lisa Su, and the other by TSMC’s Research VP, Philip Wong. Both touched on Moore’s Law, but while Su talked about how applications need to go beyond Moore’s Law, TSMC’s Wong committed that Moore’s Law is not dead (for transistor density, at least). Su contended that leading-edge silicon costs continue to increase, which is why AMD transitioned to its chiplet strategy.
