Leaks point to upcoming AMD Ryzen 9 3900 with 12 Cores and a 65 Watt TDPedit
AMD seems to be widening its Ryzen product stack. With evidence for more Navi cards mounting, it’s interesting to see a further level of segmentation happening in the processor space, too. A short while ago, we’d reported on the Ryzen 5 3500X. This is a processor (apparently confirmed by a pre-embargo review in China) with six cores and six threads that battles the Intel Core i5-9400F.

16 Core AMD Ryzen 3950X Delayed to November due to Unsatisfactory Clock Speedsedit
Well, there’s some bad news for AMD ultra-enthusiasts. The shipping date for the Ryzen 9 3950X has been pushed back to November. This is something we knew. What’s new is that the reason for the delay has been found to be unsatisfactory clock speeds, not supply-side issues as was earlier reported by industry insiders.

AMD Ryzen 5 3400G Review: An Xbox One Equivalent?edit
Today, we’ll be reviewing the 3rd Gen AMD APU, the Ryzen 5 3400G. Although it was launched alongside the 7nm Zen 2 based CPUs, it uses the older Zen+ cores and essentially shares the same design as the older 2400G based on the 12nm node. So why re-release the same product again. Two reasons, the 7nm process isn’t that mature just yet and as such the chips manufactured using it are more expensive, secondly, releasing a quad-core APU on the same node would possibly cannibalize AMD’s upcoming Ryzen 3 3200 and 3300 processors, giving consumers little reason to buy the latter.

AMD EPYC set to take a 10 percent market share in the Server Market by 2020edit
Here’s good news for AMD. The uptick in Zen 2 core sales hasn’t just been in the relatively low-volume CPU space. We’ve been hearing a lot of news of late about AMD dominating the consumer CPU market with the Ryzen 3000 series. However, this was never a big problem for Intel (and never that great a victory for AMD shareholders either), because the consumer market represents only a fraction of the overall volume of CPUs sold. You as a consumer will probably never see an Intel Xeon CPU unit in your life. But Intel sells way more Xeons to B2B customers than it does Core i parts to consumers.

3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper CPUs might not work on X399 Boardsedit
Here’s some troubling news for high-end AMD users. The upcoming Threadripper processors might not be compatible with X399 boards after all. This is something of a kick in the teeth, especially since AMD themselves promised in the past that they’d support several of processors on the same socket (unlike Intel, who regularly make sockets obsolete every other generation).

This Tool Makes the AMD Radeon RX 5700 Perform on Par with the RX 5700 XTedit
Here’s some great news for Navi owners: the Radeon RX 5700 (non XT) is low-key the new Vega 56. And we don’t just mean that it offers decent bang-for-buck. If you recall, when the Vega 56 launched, it was more or less competitive with the GeForce GTX 1070, but a far cry from both the Vega 64 and the GTX 1080. However, power users quickly found out that this had more to do with AMD limiting the card’s power draw and clocks. An overclocked Radeon Vega 56 demolished the GTX 1070 and even gave the GTX 1080 a run for its money.

Highlights of the day: AMD Ryzen processor delay blamed on unsatisfactory clock speedsedit
Last week’s news about TSMC extending 7nm chip production lead time because of strong demand provoked knee-jerk speculation that it was the cause of AMD delaying the launch of its Ryzen 9 3950X. It has turned out that unsatisfactory clock speed – rather than foundry support – has prompted AMD to adjust the design of 16-core processor, according to sources from the motherboard suppy chain. TSMC may be indisputably the leader in the foundry sector, but China-based peers are keen to expand 12-inch fab capacity to better serve the domestic market.

The top SKU at launch, i.e. the Ryzen 9 3900X has 12 cores and a massive L3 cache, uses the same AM4 socket, is compatible with previous gen platforms. The cost, however, has equalled Intel SKUs as both currently sell for about Rs.42K. If we are to compare launch prices, then the Intel Core i9-9900K was selling for Rs.64K in India with barely any stocks available anywhere.
Thanks to AMD, PCIe 4 Has Finally Arrived. But Does It Matter? | Digital Trendsedit
PCIe 4 is finally here. AMD’s upcoming Ryzen 3000 generation of CPUs are backwards compatible with most first and second-generation, 300 and 400 series motherboards. But the 500 series, and more specifically the X570 chipset, introduces some exciting features, including support for PCIe 4.0. But considering graphics cards of today don’t even max out PCIE 3.0, and many of AMD’s flagship X470 motherboards from 2018 actually ran PCIE 2.0, is there really much point to the new standard?
AMD Is Now Selling More GPUs Than Nvidiaedit
There were days when AMD was facing a hard time trying to maintain a strong position in the technology sector. Now, in 2019, the American silicon giant has managed to single-handedly beat Intel and Nvidia in their own game. While AMD’s Ryzen series is considered better than Intel chips in many ways, it now also has better GPU market share than Nvidia as well. That’s according to a new report published by John Peddie Research which details stats about global GPUs shipments in Q2 2019.
Why AMD powered laptops are a rage in 2019?edit
In the market for a top-notch laptop? We’re sure you must be at a crossroad. After all, it is a life-changing decision! A buyer is often seen picking sides – should they go for a thin and light device or a good gaming one…? Should they get a laptop with a larger display or smaller one that is easy to carry? A foldable one with touch screen or traditionally styled one… Questions there are aplenty! Such choices make it difficult for anyone to pick the right system. However, when it comes to picking the right processor, one simply cannot go for something that doesn’t meet your needs.
AMD Ryzen 3000 Boost Clock Survey Shows the CPUs Under-Performingedit
Reports of the Ryzen 3000 series of processors hitting lower than expected boost clocks have been surfacing all over various forums since their launch. The most recent news on the issue was an ASUS employee claiming that AMD have deliberately lowered the boost clocks for a longer life-span. Professional overclocking expert Roman “der8auer” Hartung recently performed a survey for more insight into how widespread the issue was.
AMD CPUs Continue to Sell 3x as Much Compared to Intel in Germany, Courtesy of the Ryzen 3000 Lineupedit
Intel’s sales have been dropping across the board ever since AMD launched the 7nm Ryzen 3000 processors back in July. The impact has been most prominent in markets such as Germany, Japan, US, Canada, etc where the DIY segment contributes to a major portion of the total CPUs sold. Mindfactory, one of the largest retailers in Germany has been sharing its stats with the Reddit community with respect to the percentage of CPUs sold and the corresponding revenue generated.

Custom AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT cards from MSI, Asus & Gigabyte to launch in India on 10th Septemberedit

The MSI, ASUS and Gigabyte versions of the card will hit the shelves on September 10th. Initially, the cards were expected to launch in India in mid-August but it seems like there were some issues with Indian customs, as always and you know the rest.

An Intel Core i7-9700K or an i9-9900K would also make sense, but given that we’re aiming for 4K, it wouldn’t make a lot of sense to opt for a CPU that’s 5% faster in gaming but 50% slower in everything else. Why Does More VRAM Matter For A Graphics Card?edit
Adding to that, some games are better optimized for AMD graphics cards while some are better optimized for Nvidia graphics cards. So VRAM usage will differ not only from game to game but different graphics cards as well. Another factor that is worth mentioning is multiple graphics cards. People think that using the same graphics cards in SLI or Crossfire will double the VRAM but that is not the case.

Best Gaming PC Build Under Rs. 50,000 ($500) in 2019 for 60 FPS @ 1080p Ultraedit
For the CPU, I’ll be recommending the 9th Gen Intel Core i5-9400F. A lot of people won’t like the fact that I’m suggesting a blue chip for a budget setup and will complain that a Ryzen 5 2600 should be recommended instead. My reasons are twofold. Firstly, this is a sheer gaming-focused rig where Intel Coffee Lake CPUs are quite a bit superior to the 1st and 2nd Gen AMD Ryzen processors (both cost north of 10K), so it won’t make much sense to shell out another 4-7K on a Zen+ part.

This is noticeable, even at higher resolutions. To overcome this, Gearbox added in AMD’s FidelityFX Sharpening as an optional toggle. FidelityFX can be used on both AMD and Nvidia hardware. It’s interesting to note that fellow looter-shooter Rage 2 was one of the first games to implement FidelityFX. The contrast-adaptive sharpening solution claws back most of the image quality lost to Temporal AA. The end result is the best of both worlds: a sharp image and great aliasing coverage.

Buying your dream gaming laptop for the lowest price possibleedit
New gaming laptops seldom receive deep discounts during sales. On the other hand, models that have been around for a few months (or years) often get many thousands knocked off their original launch price. To do that, you have to ensure you don’t buy a model that’s too old. If you’re looking to play modern AAA titles on your new machine, ensure the CPU is no older than an Intel 8th Gen Core series line-up or a 2018 AMD Ryzen model and the Nvidia GPU belongs to the GeForce GTX 1600 series. The ray tracing-enabled RTX cards are equally preferred too.

AMD Updates Roadmaps to Lock RDNA2 and Zen 3 onto 7nm+, with 2020 Launch Windowedit
AMD updated its technology roadmaps to reflect a 2020 launch window for its upcoming CPU and graphics architectures, “Zen 3” and RDNA2. The two will be based on 7 nm+ , which is AMD-speak for the 7 nanometer EUV silicon fabrication process at TSMC, that promises a significant 20 percent increase in transistor-densities, giving AMD high transistor budgets and more clock-speed headroom. The roadmap slides however hint that unlike the “Zen 2” and RDNA simultaneous launch on 7th July 2019, the next-generation launches may not be simultaneous.
Can AMD convert its growing GPU presence into a data center play?edit
AMD’s $5.4 billion purchase of ATI Technologies in 2006 seemed like an odd match. Not only were the companies in separate markets, but they were on separate coasts, with ATI in the Toronto, Canada, region and AMD in Sunnyvale, California. They made it work, and arguably it saved AMD from extinction because it was the graphics business that kept the company afloat while the Athlon/Opteron business was going nowhere. There were many quarters where graphics brought in more revenue than CPUs and likely saved the company from bankruptcy.
