Why are AMD’s Zen Based Ryzen CPUs are So Competitive Vs Intel Processorsedit
AMD’s Ryzen CPUs have been in the market for more than two years, offering as much as twice the performance compared to Intel CPUs at unbeatable prices. This has resulted in AMD taking the lead from Intel in many of the consumer markets around the world. However, if you look at the company’s performance over the past decade, it has been dismal, to say the least. Ever since Intel’s Core architecture landed, they have essentially been playing catch up.

AMD Ryzen PC Sales Double in Europe to 629K Machines from 355Kedit
AMD’s 3rd Gen Ryzen 3000 processors are the most popular consumer CPUs to hit the market in the last decade or so and most of the global markets are seeing a steady rise in team red’s CPU share. The bulk of it, however, seems to be going to Europe. According to a report from The Register, 12% of the 5 million personal computers sold in Europe were AMD powered, up by 7% YoY. This means that in just one year AMD’s desktop sales rose from 355K to 629K, a 200% increase!

AMD “Renoir” is the company’s next-generation APU that improves iGPU and CPU performance over the current 12 nm “Picasso” APU. An AMD “Renoir” APU engineering sample running on a “Celadon-RN” platform prototyping board, was allegedly put through 3DMark 11, and its performance numbers surfaced on Reddit, in three data-sets corresponding with three hardware configurations. In the first one, dubbed “config 1,” the CPU is clocked at 1.70 GHz, the iGPU at 1.50 GHz, and the system memory at DDR4-2667. In “config 2,” the CPU runs at 1.80 GHz, and the iGPU and memory frequencies are unknown. In “config 3,” the CPU runs at 2.00 GHz, the iGPU at 1.10 GHz, and the memory at DDR4-2667. AMD Big Navi (Supposed NVIDIA RTX 2080 Ti Competitor) D18805 goes for RRA Certificationedit
Big Navi definitely seems to be on its way to release. The folks over at WCCFTech did some internet trawling and found that a mysterious AMD GPU was just sent in for certification with RRA, a South Korean authority. The part in question is code-named the ATI-102-D18805. This might appear to be a random string of numbers and letters, but a deeper look reveals a lot.

AMD Ryzen 5 3600X vs Intel Core i5-9600K: Best Budget Gaming CPU? (PROACTIVE)edit
Looking at the specs, on paper the Ryzen 5 3600X has one major advantage, namely SMT. Luckily for Intel, most games don’t make use of SMT or HT. The 9600K has a higher boost clock which will help take the lead in single-threaded workloads unoptimized for higher-end CPUs. Then there’s the cache. The Ryzen 3000 CPUs feature a fat L3 cache, something AMD calls GameCache. This essentially makes up for the delay caused by the Infinity Fabric by holding a good amount of data, thereby cutting down on the latency.

Best NVIDIA and AMD Graphics Cards for Gaming 2019: GPU Buying Guide (India)edit
The Radeon RX 570 is at its old price, at least for now. If you are looking for a cheap 1080p capable card, then this is your time. It probably won’t last for long, not at this price anyway. For entry level builds featuring a Core i3-9100 or the older Ryzen processors, this should do just fine. The Sapphire variant of the Radeon RX 5700 is selling @ 30,799 INR. If you’re alright with skipping the first wave of ray-traced games, and instead want higher frame rates at 1440p or even 4K capability, then the Radeon RX 5700 is the best option.

AMD Ryzen 7 3800X – The Ryzen 7 3800X is selling for 3K less, almost on par with the Ryzen 7 3700X. This is a pretty sweet deal. You’re essentially getting a 3800X for the price of the 3700X. You get a higher boost clock, more overclocking headroom, a higher TDP which directly translates into better gaming performance. If you’re building a gaming or content creation PC north of a lakh, then this is the CPU to get, and at this price, it’s a steal.

Best RAM for AMD Ryzen 3000 Processors: Impact of Memory Frequency on Gaming Performanceedit
When it comes to AMD’s Ryzen 3000 processors, the memory speeds and latency have a greater impact on performance than Intel’s Coffee Lake processors. This is because of the Infinity Fabric linking the various chiplets of the CPU. It’s ideal to have the memory and the Infinity Fabric running at the same frequency (as high as possible) with 3700MHz being the upper limit. As per AMD, 3600MHz is the sweet spot for memory speed. If you go below this, the latency between the various chiplets and the IF will increase whereas if you go higher, the Fabric and memory will be decoupled, running in a 1:2 mode which isn’t exactly the ideal situation.

Future AMD GPU Architecture to Implement BFloat16 Hardwareedit
A future AMD graphics architecture could implement BFloat16 floating point capability on the silicon. Updates to AMD’s ROCm libraries on GitHub dropped a big hint as to the company implementing the compute standard, which has significant advantages over FP16 that’s implemented by current-gen AMD GPUs. BFloat16 offers a significantly higher range than FP16, which caps out at just 6.55 x 10^4, forcing certain AI researchers to “fallback” to the relatively inefficient FP32 math hardware. BFloat16 uses three fewer significand bits than FP16 (8 bits versus 11 bits), offering 8 exponent bits, while FP16 only offers 5 bits.

NVIDIA G-Sync vs AMD FreeSync: Which is Better?edit
One of the main differences between FreeSync and G-Sync is that the former like most of AMD’s technologies is OpenSource. It leverages the VESA Adaptive-Sync that comes along with Display Port 1.2a. As such, there are no penalties or royalties that need to be paid to implement FreeSync, allowing OEMs to integrate it into even the cheapest of monitors. The lower end FreeSync models cost less than 10K. G-Sync, on the other hand, is NVIDIA’s own proprietary technology. Earlier there was only one version that required a PCB from Green team to enable it.

AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT vs NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super: Which One Should You Buy?edit
This is actually new. Traditionally AMD GPUs have been superior when it comes to hardware but due to poor utilization and driver support haven’t been able to fully leverage it. With AMD’s RDNA architecture, gaming is the main focus, unlike GCN which was more compute-oriented. Although that’s not a bad thing, games mainly benefit from lower latencies, higher IPC and core clocks. This is exactly what the Navi cards focus on. As you can see, the specs of the two competitors are almost the same.

Best CPUs for Gaming 2019: Intel Core 9th Gen vs AMD Ryzen 3rd Gen Showdown (Proactive)edit
In a gaming PC, the graphics card is the single most important component, but that doesn’t mean you should opt for an inferior CPU that can’t keep up with it. This might cause a processor bottleneck, leading to under-utilization of your fancy flagship GPU. It’s best to go with a processor that compliments it, but at the same time, it’s not advisable to spend too much on it. As a thumb rule, the CPU should be cheaper than the graphics card in gaming builds. For the vast populace, this might sound like an overly complicated task, so we’ll be simplifying things for you.

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X vs Intel Core i7-9700K: Gaming Performance Explorededit
When AMD’s Ryzen 3000 processors first landed, we published the review of the Ryzen 7 3700X which performed on par with the much more expensive Core i9-9900K in most non-gaming workloads while being slightly slower in gaming. Since then, there have been a lot of debates on the Matisse chips, especially if you take into account the boost clocks. There have been several BIOS updates, AGESA microcode updates and so on. We tested the 3700X with the newer firmware and although the boost behavior was slightly more aggressive than before, it’s still within the margin of error. Regardless, we’ll be re-conducting gaming benchmarks because:

While it offers robust performance in games optimized for multi-core chips like Ashes of Singularity and Total War: Warhammer II, its performance in older titles like Shadow of War is impressive as well, matching the $484 Core i9-9900K blow-for-blow.

AMD Ryzen 3000 series has a processor for everyone (Proactive)edit
For the longest time, Intel has enjoyed a monopoly of sorts when it comes to Laptop processors. The few AMD powered machines we did see were mostly grossly underpowered laptops, usually created with the sole aim of making the machine affordable. Advanced Micro Devices or AMD as we all have come to know the company has fast pivoted from that state of things. AMD’s Ryzen processors have quickly been gaining favour with OEMs and customers alike. This has allowed AMD’s chips to infiltrate more segments than before.

AMD’s Ryzen 3000 CPUs Don’t Reach Advertised Boost Clocks Even Under Liquid Coolingedit
There is something very wrong with AMD’s Ryzen 3000 clock speeds. Whether it’s temp throttling, power, poor binning, or a combination of those three, few 3rd Gen Ryzen parts are reaching their advertised speeds at stock settings. The folks over at Tom’s Hardware tried to see what would happen with liquid nitrogen cooling: At -180 degrees Celsius, where the temperature is obviously no longer a potential factor. What they found was shocking.

Yesterday Nvidia released their GTX 1660Ti Super graphics card. It was a big release, giving a great performance in the reach of budget players. Along with that, a few rumours regarding Nvidia’s next generation of graphics card were also released, the Nvidia Ampere RTX 3000 series. Intel’s Pricing Power Vanishes Thanks to AMDedit
A competitive market for PC CPUs is great for consumers but not so great for market leader Intel(NASDAQ:INTC). Before rival Advanced Micro Devices(NASDAQ:AMD) began launching its innovative third-generation Ryzen CPUs, Intel didn’t have much trouble charging premium prices for its chips. That era of unchecked pricing power is now over. Case in point: Intel’s new lineup of processors aimed at high-end desktops. With legitimate competition from AMD this time around, Intel has been forced to do something foreign to the company for quite some time: compete on price.

With a price lower than the Intel Core i5-9400F, it promises to be the go-to CPU for builders in the sub-60K range. It’s almost the same as the 3600 except drops SMT which isn’t a must for games anyway. Intel has always priced its high-end HEDT offerings right up in the sky. This was largely because there was no meaningful competition.

If you’re going for an AMD build, the Ryzen 7 3700X is the best bang for your buck you’ll get at the moment. Offering similar performance to the Intel Core i7-9700K at a much lower power rating of 65W is impressive as it is, but it also comes bundled with a bundled Wraith Prism RGB cooler in the box. While it offers robust performance in games optimized for multi-core chips like Ashes of Singularity and Total War: Warhammer II, its performance in older titles like Shadow of War is impressive as well, matching the $484 Core i9-9900K blow-for-blow.

Putting more than one screen on a laptop isn’t a particularly original or new idea. We’ve already seen attempts from Razer (Project Valerie), Lenovo (Thinkpad W700ds) and Acer (Iconia 6120) to name a few. Surface Laptop 3: Finally An Easy To Open Laptop From Microsoftedit
It looks like Microsoft has taken some design lessons from Apple as removing the top cover of the Surface Laptop 3 is a pretty straight forward process. Unscrew the four Torx Plus screws and lift the panel (which is held by strong magnets for added protection). Though it is easy to get inside the device the Surface Laptop 3 has a soldered CPU and memory which makes it impossible to upgrade or replace. However, the M.2 2230 SSD can be easily upgraded. Just like the previous generation model the battery is glued to the chassis and can be pried open using some professional tools.

The reason for this is first, firmware is extremely important for any device, as it determines the way software and hardware work with each other.
