With its next-generation “Zen 3” CPU microarchitecture designed for the 7 nm EUV silicon fabrication process, AMD could bid the “Zen” compute complex or CCX farewell, heralding chiplets with monolithic last-level caches (L3 caches) that are shared across all cores on the chiplet. AMD embraced a quad-core compute complex approach to building multi-core processors with “Zen.” At the time, the 8-core “Zeppelin” die featured two CCX with four cores, each. With “Zen 2,” AMD reduced the CPU chiplet to only containing CPU cores, L3 cache, and an Infinity Fabric interface, talking to an I/O controller die elsewhere on the processor package.

AMD has unveiled a new lineup of GPUs in its entry-level segment in the form of the RX 5500-series. Three SKUs meant for desktops and laptops have been launched in this series that are based on the company’s 7 nm Navi GPU architecture. With the announcement for Zen 3 processors, AMD made it pretty clear that it is going to kill the SP3 socket that is currently used in the AMD EPYC Rome server processors. In the slide shown during the presentation, AMD gave a road map for the upcoming server-class processors in the coming years. The presentation gave a fair bit of idea about the upcoming EPYC Milan CPU. The processor rocks 7nm+ node based on Zen 3 architecture.

AMD has rolled out new, more inexpensive Navi graphics card with the Radeon RX 5500. Well at least that’s the way AMD is presenting the card without mentioning pricing, because at launch it’s going to be available inside of prebuilt gaming PCs. You won’t be able to buy this GPU as a standalone part until sometime in Q4 2019 (usually October to December).

Since 2017, AMD has gone from effectively zero market share in the enterprise server market to securing well over 10 percent and putting Intel’s monopoly in question for the first time.
