AMD’s CPU Market Share Hits Decade-high of 30 percentedit

Best CPUs for Gaming 2019: Intel Core 9th Gen vs AMD Ryzen 3rd Gen Showdown (Proactive)edit

In a gaming PC, the graphics card is the single most important component, but that doesn’t mean you should opt for an inferior CPU that can’t keep up with it. This might cause a processor bottleneck, leading to under-utilization of your fancy flagship GPU. It’s best to go with a processor that compliments it, but at the same time, it’s not advisable to spend too much on it. As a thumb rule, the CPU should be cheaper than the graphics card in gaming builds. For the vast populace, this might sound like an overly complicated task, so we’ll be simplifying things for you.

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X vs Intel Core i7-9700K: Gaming Performance Explorededit

When AMD’s Ryzen 3000 processors first landed, we published the review of the Ryzen 7 3700X which performed on par with the much more expensive Core i9-9900K in most non-gaming workloads while being slightly slower in gaming. Since then, there have been a lot of debates on the Matisse chips, especially if you take into account the boost clocks. There have been several BIOS updates, AGESA microcode updates and so on. We tested the 3700X with the newer firmware and although the boost behavior was slightly more aggressive than before, it’s still within the margin of error. Regardless, we’ll be re-conducting gaming benchmarks because:

If you’re going for an AMD build, the Ryzen 7 3700X is the best bang for your buck you’ll get at the moment. While it offers robust performance in games optimized for multi-core chips like Ashes of Singularity and Total War: Warhammer II, its performance in older titles like Shadow of War is impressive as well, matching the $484 Core i9-9900K blow-for-blow.
