Although Intel’s 10nm node failure can be attributed to an overly aggressive policy or perhaps the death of Moore’s Law, the 14nm shortages are a different case altogether. Intel didn’t anticipate that AMD’s Ryzen CPUs would be as disruptive as they turned out to be. And they certainly didn’t expect that their 14nm offerings would fail to match up to the 3rd Gen Ryzen parts even after doubling the die size. In the end, this reminds me of the tale of “The Hare and the Tortoise“.

AMD Navi 10, Navi 21 (RDNA 2) and Xbox Series X GPU “Arden” Source Code Stolen and Leakededit
The source code for AMD’s Navi 10, Navi 21 and the Arden GPU have been stolen and leaked on GitHub. Although AMD was quick to react and issue DCMA takedowns of these packets, it’s highly likely that there are still copies out in the wild. To make matters worse, the hacker who posted the source code of these RDNA GPUs has claimed that if no one buys the code from her, she will leak everything. The three GPUs whose source code was posted on GitHub include Navi 10, Navi 21 and Arden.

Along with removing its own Software Guard Extensions(SGX), Intel has incorporated some really exciting features to the new platform. It includes a newer processor core architecture, which is most probably Willow Cove cores designed over a 14nm architecture. It is also rumored to bring the new Xe Architecture for integrated graphics(codenamed Gen12). this will additionally bring in HDMI 2.0b and DisplayPort 1.4a support.

Here are the devices that will receive GPU driver updates from Qualcomm via Google play storeedit
Alongside the Snapdragon 865 and a few other smartphone chips, Qualcomm also announced that it will update GPU drivers through the Google Play Store. At the Google for Games Developer summit yesterday, Qualcomm listed out the first few smartphones that will receive these updates. But what do these updates bring? Smartphone GPUs have traditionally been quite locked down, unlike its PC components that receive regular updates with optimisations in place to run various games smoothly without taking up too much power. Similarly, Google announced the Android GPU Inspector which makes building and optimising games on the Android platform much easier.

Computex 2020 Officially Postponed to Late Septemberedit
Computex 2020 has been officially postponed to ending September. The show will now (hopefully) commence from 28th to 30th September. This is the first time since the SARS outbreak of 2003 that Computex has been delayed. We had earlier reported that the event was likely to get postponed in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and it appears that our reporting was on spot. Many other tech events such as MWC, GDC, GTC, and E3 have already been canceled (or delayed) due to the spread of the Novel Coronavirus disease.

Hyperscale operator spending on data centres up 11% in 2019edit
New data from Synergy Research Group shows that hyperscale operator capex in the fourth quarter was well over $32 billion, setting a new record for quarterly spending as it was marginally higher than Q4 of 2018 – the previous recordholder. For the full year, total hyperscale operator capex was up just 1% from the prior year. However, their capex that was specifically targeted at data centers increased substantially, growing by 11% in 2019, reflecting ongoing strength in their core business operations.
