Lenovo Flex 5G has been unveiled as the world’s first Windows 10 laptop with 5G connectivity. Sony has finally revealed the design for the PlayStation 5, its next generation gaming console, after weeks of waiting. The sudden shift to work from home and remote learning during the coronavirus pandemic have resulted in increased demand for laptops between Rs 32,000 and Rs 52,000 in India, according to Lenovo. “We are seeing the biggest traction in the Rs 32,000 to Rs 52,000 price bracket which covers the mainstream laptop segment,” Shailendra Katyal, Executive Director and Head of Consumer PCSD, Lenovo India told indianexpress.com. “In this segment, there are good plug-and-play solutions with decent speed, large displays, and good RAM.”

As widely speculated since months, Apple may finally announce shift to its own processors at the upcoming developers conference WWDC. According to a report in Bloomberg, “Apple is preparing to announce shift to its own main processors in Mac computers, replacing chips from Intel Corp, as early as this month at its annual developer conference.”

Apple is gearing up for its first-ever online-only Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) on June 22. To be sure, 2020 though is unlikely to mark an absolute turn around for the segment, which has been under constant pressure from larger screen-size and feature- rich smartphones. According to market research firm CyberMedia Research (CMR), the pandemic has given the PC industry a boost and the demand for tablets is more enhanced, benefiting the likes of Lenovo (47% market share), Samsung (15%), iBall (11%) and Apple (11%). Samsung this week launched the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite with WiFi and LTE variants priced to tap into the demand surge.

Acer is also offering two budget gaming laptops in the form of the Aspire 7 and Nitro 5. The Nitro 5 starts from Rs 52,990 with the base model configured with an AMD Ryzen 5 quad-core processor, an Nvidia GTX 1650 GPU and 8GB of RAM. The Aspire 7 replaces the Ryzen CPU with a superior 9th Gen Intel Core i5 chip and opts for a 512GB SSD as opposed to a 1TB HDD on the Nitro 5. The Aspire 7 starts from Rs 54,990 look like a better deal on paper, but the Nitro 5’s cooling and form factor should give it an edge in competitive gaming.

Intel and AMD are known to be the biggest rivals in the CPU market but they surprisingly worked together on a project called Kaby Lake-G processors which is nothing but 8th gen Intel CPUs with AMD’s Radeon RX Vega M graphics. AMD will soon be including a copy of Horizon Zero Dawn – Complete Edition with every purchase of their Ryzen CPUs. The new bundle was spotted on AMD’s EMEA region websites. While we still don’t know the exact release date of HZD on Steam, we do know that it’s bound to be soon. The AMD bundle on the other hand though does bring up some interesting questions. Is Horizon Zero Dawn PC an AMD-partnered title?

Sources from the industry have claimed that AMD is in no rush to migrate to the 5nm node ahead of schedule. Both the Milan and Vermeer processors based on the Zen 3 core architecture will leverage TSMC’s 7nm enhanced process to deliver IPC gains in excess of 15%, along with notable hikes in operating clocks. However, keep in mind that that report explicitly pointed out that the 5nm advanced node has been booked for AMD’s GPU orders, not CPUs, neither does it indicate when they’ll hit the market.

I BM says it is getting out of the facial recognition business over concern about how it can be used for mass surveillance and racial profiling. A letter to US lawmakers on Monday from new IBM CEO Arvind Krishna said the tech giant “has sunset its general purpose facial recognition and analysis software products”. Krishna was addressing Democrats who have been working on police reform legislation in Congress. The sweeping reform package could include restrictions on police use of facial recognition.

AMD’s upcoming Ryzen 7 3800 XT has been spotted in the Ashes benchmark, and the results show a nominal improvement over the existing Matisse family. The 3800XT scores 7,400 points at 1080p using the “crazy” preset, yielding 76.6 FPS. This makes it roughly 10% faster than the vanilla Ryzen 7 3800X in the same benchmark. Although this may not seem like a big boost, keep in mind that Ashes of the Singularity doesn’t benefit from higher core clocks as much as other games which is also why AMD’s Ryzen parts often come out ahead of the Intel competition here.

One of its major clients was cut off from the supply chain, leaving a wide gulf in the foundry’s 5nm process capacity. While 8GB may not be the new norm, it would be nice to see AMD ramp up the minimum VRAM up to 6GB at least. AMD has always been the one to push boundaries of GPU spec, with being the first to bring HBM to the market. AMD was also the first to bring an 8GB VRAM GPU to the market, so it wouldn’t be too far off to assume that the company would do something similar with their upcoming RDNA 2 GPUs.

According to the Verge, the new model supersedes the existing 14-inch Chromebook 3, which was in turn a refresh of its Chromebook S340 priced at USD 249, but it’s not currently available on Lenovo’s store. The new Chromebook 3’s screen is smaller but has the latest features. The display is a bit brighter than existing 14-inch Chromebook 3 and the storage has been increased to 64 GB from 32 GB. Our sources tell us the HP laptop will launch in the middle of June. HP will be collaborating with a leading telecom player to provide dedicated data plans through a SIM card so that users remain always connected. The laptop will be marketed under the “Always Connected” banner, which indicates an Intel-based 4G LTE modem, if marketing speak is anything to go by.

With the government allowing several relaxations in the last two phases of the lockdown including sale of non-essentials on ecommerce platforms, consumer electronics companies in India have seen sharp recovery in demand and are hopeful that the trend will continue in the coming quarters. According to Arnold Su, Business Head for Asus India’s Consumer and Gaming PC division, the company has recovered 100% of its sales in the “post lockdown phase” and sees the spike going “higher”. Asus has reopened over 100 of its stores in areas where offline operations are possible, but got a “significant” amount of sales through e-commerce partners.

The unit we received is powered by an AMD Ryzen 3700X, which AMD says runs at 3.6 GHz at base and upto 4.4 GHz at boost. The CPU is paired with a bog standard CPU cooler, which is passable and does what it should. Firstly, the memory is configured only with a single 16 GB stick in our unit. It is well-documented that AMD’s Ryzen prefers, and indeed excels, when it has a copious amount of memory bandwidth, which is only available when it has more channels to work with.

According to a tweet shared by Acer India, Swift 3 is the country’s first-ever AMD Ryzen TM 4000-series powered laptop. It is ultra-light and slim and comes with a battery life of up to 12 hours. The laptop has 8 GB LPDDR4 system memory, 512 GB NVMe PCIe 3.0 storage and it runs on Windows 10. Fortnite’s next live event and Season 3 have been postponed once again, this time due to the protests in the US. Epic Games made the announcement through its blog post stating that the teams need to “focus on themselves, their families, and their communities”. Abu Dhabi-based sovereign investor Mubadala Investment Company will buy 1.85 per cent stake in Jio Platforms for Rs 9,093.6 crore, RIL said on Friday. With this investment, Jio Platforms has raised Rs 87,655.35 crore from leading global technology and growth investors, including Facebook, Silver Lake, Vista Equity Partners, General Atlantic, KKR and Mubadala, in less than six weeks. Sony on Monday postponed a streamed event at which it was to showcase games tailored for new-generation PlayStation 5 consoles, stepping back amid growing unrest in US cities. Acer has today launched the new Swift 3 in India. The company is saying that the Swift 3 is the first laptop in the Indian market that’s running an AMD 4000 series processor. MSI’s Modern 14 laptops were announced at the beginning of this year. The Laptops were powered with Intel’s Comet Lake based processor with NVIDIA discrete graphics. Apple has quietly doubled the price for upgrading the RAM on its entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro. The customers in the US will not have to pay $200 to move from 8GB to 16GB compared to the previous $100 upgrade price, reports MacRumors.
