Selene is the first AMD Zen-based system to be featured in the list of top-10 most powerful supercomputers. The previous AMD powered supercomputer to enter the top-10 rankings was the Titan which featured the Opteron 6274 CPUs and NVIDIA’s K20x GPUs. It was ranked #1 in 2012 but now has slipped down to $12, still impressive considering how long it has really been.

As per detailed EM photographs of the Renoir die shared by Fritzchens Fritz, the Ryzen 4000 “Renoir” APUs may just support up to 16 PCIe 3.0 lanes on the desktop platform. Earlier, many reports had claimed that like the mobile platform, the desktop Ryzen 4000 parts would also be limited to 8 PCIe 3.0 lanes. The die photographs show that there’s indeed a possibility that the desktop parts may include 16 lanes. Even the mobile parts have the required components, except they’re disabled:

NVIDIA’s Ampere RTX 3000 cards are about to launch in a few months and the leaks have started pouring in already. The latest of which happens to be a screenshot of the specifications of the RTX 3080 Ti Founder Edition graphics card. This latest leak, while it is unlikely to be true at this juncture, states that the RTX 3080 Ti will have 5376 CUDA Cores with a Boost clock of 2200 MHz.

Apple has tapped up WWDC 2020 Day 1 with some key announcements. The most significant of them include an introduction to iOS 14, macOS 11 Big Sur, tvOS 14 and watchOS 7. Apple has also confirmed its transition to its custom Apple Silicon from Intel chips for the Mac. Apple CEO Tim Cook began the WWDC Keynote by addressing support for protests against racism and also thanking the healthcare workers for their continuation in curbing the spread of the coronavirus.

Apple said Monday it would build its own chips to power its Mac computers to create a “common architecture” that allows the devices to run the same apps as those on the iPhone and iPad. AS THE US election draws closer and voting in primaries is underway, President Donald Trump has suspended all H-1B work visas for highly skilled tech workers till the end of 2020. Those already in the country will not be affected, but people who travelled home due to the pandemic will not be able to re-enter the US.
