AMD Renoir Desktop APUs Have Up to 50% Lower Latency than Ryzen 3000 CPUsedit
According to sources, AMD’s upcoming desktop Renoir parts will have a much lower latency than their Ryzen 3000 counterparts. As per leaked images, we’re looking at around 50% lower memory latency than a standard Matisse part. The Renoir chip in question here is paired with 4333MT/s of dual-channel memory running at CL14. The Infinity Fabric is running at the same speed (2166.7MHz) and the resulting memory latency is an impressive 47.6 ns with a bandwidth of 68,274 MB/s. My Ryzen 3000 system running 16GB of dual-channel memory @ 3600MT/s CL16 has a latency of 68.2 ns and an accompanying bandwidth of 51,398 MB/s.

AMD Publishes Beta Drivers with Hardware Accelerated GPU Schedulingedit
After NVIDIA’s release of the first DirectX12 Ultimate driver update, AMD has followed suit with support for one of the other primary highlights of the release, Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling. This feature basically lets the GPU take control of the VRAM management from the OS for lower latency and efficient utilization. In the case of NVIDIA’s cards, we saw a marginal gain in memory-bound titles such as Assassins’ Creed, with the rest seeing no change in performance despite slightly lower VRAM consumption.

AMD Desktop CPU Market Races to 50% Share in Passmark Survey: Highest in 13 Yearsedit
Passmark’s Q2 2020 CPU survey is out and the results are once again in AMD’s favor. The biggest change was the notebook which gained nearly a whole percent in AMD’s favor. The Ryzen desktop market was no slouch either and increased by half a percent, bringing it up to 46.8%, nearly reaching market parity with Intel. The latter, in the meantime fell by the same amount to 53.2%, the lowest in 14 years. AMD Ryzen 7 4700G Final Retail APU Spotted Suggesting Imminent Launchedit
Final retail samples of the octa-core Ryzen 7 4700G Renoir (desktop) APU have been spotted, suggesting an impending launch. Unlike the chips seen earlier which were engineering samples, this one comes with the specs baked into the firmare on account of being market-ready. We are looking at the eight-core/sixteen threaded Ryzen 7 4700G paired with the Vega 8 iGPU packing as many as 512 shaders. While the specs may be similar to the Ryzen 7 3700X, one core difference here is in terms of the CCX configuration.

AMD Working on Navi 31 GPU – Could This Be the RTX 3090 Killer That Big Navi Isn’t?edit
A new report now points to the existence of Navi 31 – a new GPU from AMD that was previously never mentioned anywhere. The report comes from HardwareLeaks which spotted references to the new GPU in macOS 11’s (Big Sur) GPU drivers. HardwareLeaks suggests this might be a reference to future RDNA 3 cards. Given that we recently saw NVIDIA working on a new RTX 3090, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s actually another GPU different from AMD’s ‘Big Navi’. Of course, we still know very little about RDNA 2, with the only substantial information being that it’ll be in the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

NVIDIA’s lower-end market segment is about to get a lot more confusing than it already is. Team Green is reportedly working on an “ultra” variant of the GTX 1650. The GTX 1650 Ultra is based on the TU116 die like the GTX 1660, 1660 Super and the GTX 1660 Ti, while the original GTX 1650 variants use the Tu117 die.
