15th edition of IET Karmaveer Expo – India’s largest working model competition for engineers concludes in Nashikedit

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), UK’s largest professional engineering body in association with the Department of Electrical Engineering at K. K. Wagh Institute of Engineering Education and Research, Nashik, today organised the 15th edition of the IET-Karmaveer Expo. The working model contest and project exhibition expo witnessed participation from students of various engineering colleges across India. The expo encouraged students to implement basic engineering concepts to help solve complex, real-world problems in order to benefit the society.

Over 20 engineering colleges apply for closureedit
According to data accessed from the Directorate of Technical Education, last year, only 52% of B.E./B. Tech seats were filled in self-financing engineering colleges. Even government, aided and Anna University’s constituent colleges managed to fill only around 82% seats. “Only 1,34,994 candidates applied for admission through single-window counselling for the 2,77,061 seats in 2016-17,” an official said.

The government has decided to penalise those engineering colleges that do not adher to pay scales for teachers and maintain student-faculty ratio. As per All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)’s new norms, if the colleges do not follow the rules, it may lead to suspension of admission process or reduction in intake in tech institutions.
