Made in IIT Solar Plant Powers Thousands of Rural Homesedit

On Thursday, the solar power system was recognised by The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), New York, as ‘Technology of the year 2017 in the service of humanity’. The solar inverter less DC system is cost and energy-efficient as unlike other solar power systems, it does not convert direct current (DC) produced by a solar installation into alternate current (AC). The system comes with a full DC wiring.

For the first time, solar energy is now cheaper than coal-based electricity in India as India’s solar-generation capacity continues to rise. India’s solar-generation capacity is expected to touch 8.8 gigawatts by the end of this as renewable energy consultancy Bridge to India. Solar power tariffs are at a historic low at Rs 2.62 per unit, some 18% lower than the average price of Rs 3.20 charged by NTPC for electricity generated by its coal-fired plants.
