Made in IIT Solar Plant Powers Thousands of Rural Homesedit
On Thursday, the solar power system was recognised by The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), New York, as ‘Technology of the year 2017 in the service of humanity’. The solar inverter less DC system is cost and energy-efficient as unlike other solar power systems, it does not convert direct current (DC) produced by a solar installation into alternate current (AC). The system comes with a full DC wiring.

India’s solar-generation capacity is expected to touch 8.8 gigawatts by the end of this as renewable energy consultancy Bridge to India. Solar power tariffs are at a historic low at Rs 2.62 per unit, some 18% lower than the average price of Rs 3.20 charged by NTPC for electricity generated by its coal-fired plants.
Solar EnergyCompensation for grid curtailment to be beneficial for renewablesedit
The move will protect the cash flows from grid curtailments. When the proposal is adopted, it would ensure a favourable operational environment for renewable energy projects — both solar and wind energy developers. Over the year, the Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) signed for renewable energy projects have failed to address the grid issues and lacked a mechanism to compensate for energy loss.
