The launch of the mega storage facility marks a key step forward in modernizing India’s power system and improving grid efficiency. India is executing a plan to set up 175 Gigawatt of renewable energy capacity by 2022 and deploying energy storage systems will help network operators mitigate solar and wind resources’ variability and reduce congestion on the transmission system.

The solar industry has unveiled the budget expectations from the Finance Minister. In a statement Shekhar Singal, Managing Director, Eastman Auto & Power Ltd. said, “The solar power sector is one of the thrust areas with government setting an ambitious solar target of 100 GW by the year 2022. However, the solar mission can only be successful if the domestic manufacturing sector is also developed.

North Delhi consumers will be the first in India who will be able to use solar power during the night. Two private companies on Tuesday began construction of India’s first utility-scale energy storage system of 10 MW. It will be ready by the end of 2018. The system is being deployed in Rohini at a substation operated by Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd. The system will enable better peak load management, add system flexibility and enhance reliability for more than 7 million customers in the Delhi region.
