Nearly 91.1 per cent people in the country are keen to experience a reality where Internet of Things (IoT) devices could make their lives simpler as they would be able to monitor and manage their home appliances remotely in real time, says a report. The report ‘India IoT’ published by Tata Communications BSE -1.02 % revealed that more than 65 per cent people suffer anxiety over leaving lights on when they are away from home, and believe that connected technology could.

In October 2017, the Lancet Commission on Pollution and Health, published by the peer-reviewed Lancet medical journals, attributed to air pollution an estimated 6.5 million premature deaths globally, with 1.1 million being from India. Dreadful as these figures were, they were not surprising, considering that back in 2014, the World Health Organisation’s urban air quality database had found four Indian cities to be among the world’s 10 most polluted. The database also placed 10 Indian cities in the 20 worst list.

A total of 42 MoUs, promising investment of around Rs 60,000 crore, were signed in the field of renewable energy, mainly solar power plants. The summit saw developers showing interest in solar energy given the huge potential in UP. The biggest investors were Avaada Power Pvt Ltd, which signed an MoU of Rs 10,000 crore for solar projects of 1,600 MW and ReNew Power Ventures, which signed a Rs 8,000-crore MoU for 1,000 MW of solar energy and 200 MW of waste-to-energy projects.
