Can digital literacy promote women empowerment? Answer lies hereedit

Times Jobs

Today, being literate is not just limited to being able to read and write any language; it is much more than that. Digital Literacy is becoming as important as traditional literacy. As per the census of 2011, an effective literacy rate for men in India was 82.14%, while for women it was 65.46%. The good news is that this gap is narrowing. However, as per UNICEF’s “The State of the World’s Children 2017 – Children in a Digital World” report, only 29% of all internet users in India are females.

For instance, we keep our savings, assets and cash with banks because they are trustworthy and secure. However, their data is centralised, making them quite prone to cyber criminals that can bring the entire banking system to a halt. Now consider a person working abroad who wants to send a remittance to his family back home but has to encounter multiple clearances before his family receives it.
