We live in an age of dramatic change. Urbanisation and industrialisation are growing at a phenomenal pace. By 2030, India’s urban population, for example, will reach 600 million people. That’s nearly twice the size of United States. Concurrently, climate change and its resultant impact are occurring faster. Over the next 40 years, as historic urban migration leads to 150 per cent more energy being consumed, the world needs to cut carbon dioxide emissions by half to contain the adverse impact of these changes. This means we need to rapidly move to a world at least three times more energy efficient.

RTO to hold talks with civic body to set up infrastructure for e-rickshawsedit

With the battery-operated e-rickshaw project failing to garner adequate interest in Pune, even almost a year after the plan was announced, the regional transport office (RTO) has now decided to intervene. The RTO plans to hold talks with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for the development of basic infrastructure for these vehicles.

To reduce pollution and the temperature levels, the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) is planning to introduce electric buses on Tirumala Hills. Trial run of the first electric bus from Tirupati to Tirumala will begin soon. RTC officials have also made proposals to operate eco-friendly buses on other routes, including the AP Capital.
