To speed up connectivity, 5G networks requires more precision than current LTE technology. Instead of using today’s remote data centers, 5G systems will be mounted on street lamps, traffic lights, and other locations right next to the smartphones and Internet of Things devices they support. To limit service outages and maximize bandwidth, every node in a 5G network needs timing accuracy of 65 nanoseconds versus 1500 nanoseconds with 4G networks.

“Simply put, 5G means that the network will be ready for millions of devices and not just the smartphone in your hand,” said Bhaskar Ramamurthi, who helms the Centre of Excellence in Wireless Technology at IIT Madras. “Today, through their smartphone, consumers can decide which restaurant is nice and where they want to eat, but 5G will usher in internet of things (IoT), which will enable much more intelligence in the system along with higher data speeds,” he added.

Analytics, finance & accounting (F&A) and customer interaction services (CIS) are the fastest growing segments for the Indian BPM (business process management) sector, industry experts said at Nasscom’s BPM Strategy Summit here on Thursday. The sector currently generates $32.5 billion in revenue and employs 1.2 million people. CIS exports stood at $11 billion in 2017-18, while F&A and knowledge services exports were $6 billion each. Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence of IEEE, have demonstrated how errors introduced in machine-learning algorithms could throw up varied results like African chameleon for a missile, and a custard apple for a banana. They have shared their algorithm in open source platform Github for others to work and improvise the software.
