As of April 30, 2019, and January 31, 2019, Walmart reported cash and cash equivalents of $2.7 billion and $2.8 billion, respectively, according to filings with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission made by Walmart last week. Of the $2.7 billion of cash, approximately $1.2 billion can only be accessed through dividends or inter-company financing arrangements, subject to approval of Flipkart’s minority shareholders.

Amazon infuses Rs 450 crore in its digital payment armedit

E-commerce giant Amazon has infused Rs 450 crore in its digital payments arm Amazon Pay (India), taking the total funding to over Rs 1,000 crore during the first half of the calendar year 2018-19. Out of the Rs 450 crore, Amazon Singapore has pumped in Rs 449 crore and the remaining Rs 1 crore is funded by Amazon Mauritius. Amazon Pay received the capital infusion on June 6. So far, Amazon has invested a total of Rs 3,221 crore in Amazon Pay, since its launch in 2016.Last month, Amazon India launched domestic flight bookings, money transfer options, utility bill payment on the Amazon Pay.

Financial Assistance to Startups in Indiaedit

Direct funding support to startups is not envisaged under Startup India Programme. Government of India has established Fund of Funds for Startups (FFS), to meet the funding needs of startups. Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India, is the monitoring agency and Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) is the operating agency for FFS. As per the operating guidelines issued by DPIIT, FFS contributes to the corpus of SEBI registered Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs). These AIFs in turn have to invest at least twice the contribution under FFS in startups, as defined by the Government of India.

Amazon India Director Abhinav Singh on Thursday announced the launch of a Sort Centre at Surampalli in Gannavaram mandal of Krishna district. It is a 25,000 square feet facility where the customer packages would be processed and despatched. Similar centres had been recently opened in Goa, Ranchi and Siliguri, he said. Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Singh said the Sort Centre enabled faster delivery of customer orders in the Andhra Pradesh (A.P.) capital region and its neighbourhood where demand had been growing rapidly, and it was in addition to a fulfilment centre with a 20,000 cubic feet storage space established in the city a few years ago.
