AMD CPUs Dominate Amazon Top Sellers List in US, UK and Germanyedit

AMD’s relentless CPU design and release cadence have been totally overturning the consumer mindset regarding whose CPU manufacturer they should choose to populate their builds, and it shows in the top sellers for numerous retailers. Amazon US, for example, lists only two Intel CPUs in the top ten of its CPU sales, with the 6-core/6-thread Core i5-9600K in fourth position, and the 8-core/16-thread Core i9-9900K in sixth. AMD’s Ryzen 7 2700X is the top seller (not at all strange, considering the ludicrously low Black Friday sale price of $159, with the Ryzen 5 2600 in second place and the Ryzen 5 3600 in third.

With up to 32 cores (and up to 64 soon), these processors are designed to brute-force their way through heavy workloads. AMD Radeon RX 5500 Reviewedit

We got our hands on a Radeon RX 5500 graphics card, and with official drivers already available, we decided to take it for a spin. The RX 5500 is an OEM model manufactured by PCPartner, who also produce the AMD reference design board, so it qualifies as MBA (made by AMD) and is possibly the closest thing to a reference-design for the RX 5500. The card we have with us today has the same exact core configuration as the RX 5500 retail, the same memory configuration, and the same exact GPU and memory clock speeds. Official AMD drivers for the RX 5500 already exist as the card is already on sale in prebuilds.

AMD Admits “Stars” in Ryzen Master Don’t Correspond to CPPC2 Preferred Coresedit

Deployed through BIOS and AMD chipset drivers, CPPC2 forms a middleware between OS and processor, communicating the system’s performance demands at a high frequency of 1 ms (Microsoft’s default speed for reporting performance states to processors is 15 ms). Ryzen Master, on the other hand, has had the ability to reveal the “best” cores in a Ryzen processor by ranking them across the package, on a CCD (die), and within a CCX.

Best Budget AMD Build Under Rs. 20,000: November 2019edit

Under 30K, building a gaming PC is not easy. You’ll have to either rely on second-hand parts or make some serious compromises. For this under 20,000 build, we’ll be leveraging an APU instead of a dedicated GPU. If you want, you can add a discrete graphics card later on, but keep in mind that the CPU upgrade options will be limited. Since we’re limited to just 20,000 INR here, we’ll be sticking to an APU instead of a distinct CPU/GPU combo. Our recommendation is the AMD Ryzen 3 3200G. Based on the 12nm Zen+ architecture and the Vega 8 iGPU, it’s the most balanced processor available in this range.

This is the first time Team Red’s ever had that high a market share in the Korean market. For most of this year, they were hovering around the 40 percent range. This makes sense, as first and second-gen Ryzen parts offered a viable all-round alternative to Coffee Lake but struggled to deliver a better gaming experience. AMD Ryzen 7 3700X: Evaluating the Impact of Memory Speed on Gaming Performanceedit

AMD’s Ryzen 3000 processors leverage the MCM (multi-chip module) design otherwise known as the chiplet approach. It lets the company scale its Zen 2 architecture linearly, adding more chiplets to higher-end parts. This greatly improves yields, cutting down costs and wastage but also inducing a chiplet-to-chiplet latency that adversely affects the gaming performance. The best way to make up for this is to go with the fastest memory out there (till 3733MHz) and pair it with the Infinity Fabric.

AMD Launches Ryzen 5 3500 for OEMs, Indian DIY Market (PROACTIVE)edit

AMD today officially confirmed the existence of the Ryzen 5 3500, a six-core Zen 2 part (essentially a 3600 lacking SMT) with a listing of the product on the company website. There’s however a caveat. The Ryzen 5 3500 is only available through OEMs in pre-built PCs and possibly gaming laptops. It is available as a DIY component separately in Asia-Pacific though, including India. We’ve already listed several gaming-builds in the 50-60K range that leverage the 3500, and we can confirm that the CPU squishes the more expensive Core i5-9400F.

Things are different here in India though. Although the Radeon RX 5700 is priced quite reasonably the 5700 XT or should I say the aftermarket variants cost a whopping 7-10K more than the reference card.

Analyzing AMD’s GPU Roadmap: Navi 20, Ray-Tracing & Release Datesedit

AMD launched the Navi 10 graphics cards earlier this year based on the new RDNA architecture, marking a departure from the compute-efficient GCN design. With RDNA and Navi, team RTG is focusing on sheer gaming performance. That means low latencies and high core clocks coupled with fast but affordable GDDR6 memory. HBM was a disaster for AMD and most of the Vega cards largely flopped due to the high BOM and lukewarm sales. Navi is team red’s solution to reconquering its lost fortunes in the GPU space. Navi 10 (RX 5700 series) and Navi 14 (RX 5500 series) are already out and about challenging the GeForce cards at aggressive price points. But what is next for Navi?

In a gaming-focused build, the graphics card is the most important component, but that doesn’t mean you should ignore the CPU part of it. This can cause CPU bottlenecks, preventing your GPU from fully realizing its potential. Furthermore, like a GPU bottleneck, you can’t really do much here. Lowering the settings will only make the matter worse. It’s best to go with a processor that compliments the GPU, but at the same time, it’s not advisable to spend too much on it. As a thumb rule, the CPU should be cheaper than the graphics card in gaming builds.

Screen tearing essentially occurs when parts of multiple frames are displayed simultaneously, resulting in this: It looks as though the frame has been stretched and torn into three parts, thereby the name “tearing”. Input lag is rather straight-forward: you press a key and there’s a delay before you see the result. These two problems, although, may not seem like much, can be the cause of victory or defeat in fast-paced eSports games and first-person shooters.

AMD, a chipmaking underdog, is having its dayedit

DAVID, H E OF the spat with Goliath, is an overused corporate analogy. But it is hard to think of a more appropriate one for Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). On October 29th the American chipmaking tiddler reported its third-quarter results. Lisa Su, its boss, declared herself extremely pleased. No wonder. At $ 1.8bn, revenue was the highest since 2005. AMD predicted that next quarters figures would be equally perky, up 48% on the previous year to $ 2. lbn. Its share price has risen 15 -fold since 2015.  AMD is more important to the chip business than its diminutive stature suggests.

NVIDIA Partners Order Fresh GeForce RTX 2070 Chips as they Expect RX 5700 XT Inventories to Slumpedit

NVIDIA’s add-in card partners are ordering fresh stocks of GeForce RTX 2070 graphics chips even as the performance-segment of the GPU market has changed with AMD’s introduction of its Radeon RX 5700 series “Navi,” according to a Gamers Nexus report citing sources among NVIDIA partners. NVIDIA partners are expecting a slump in AMD’s RX 5700 series graphics card inventories, particularly that of the RX 5700 XT, to create a price-point at which to sell the RTX 2070. NVIDIA partners expect RX 5700 XT inventories to run slim as supply of the 7 nm “Navi 10” chips from foundry-partner TSMC may not satiate the SKU’s reportedly high demand.

A contributor to the website also found the mention of “Radeon RX 5500/5500M” in a string within macOS Catalina 10.15.1 code. This shouldn’t come as a surprise as Apple has exclusively used AMD GPUs since 2015. Using the latest AMD mobile GPUs would only make sense for the latest MacBook Pro. NVIDIA Might Move to an MCM (Similar to AMD’s Ryzen Chiplet) Design with Next-Gen Hopper Graphics Cardsedit

Moore’s law is dead, or so the NVIDIA CEO claimed a few years back. So, the fact that chip miniaturization has started to near its limits doesn’t really come as a surprise. Intel didn’t bother and the results are clear, the company is struggling to move to the 10nm node with a shortage of the older 14mn CPUs. AMD has migrated to the MCM design using chiplets instead of a monolithic die, and this has greatly contributed to the success of the Ryzen CPUs, allowing HEDT levels of performance in the consumer space. Now, it seems like NVIDIA will be taking a page from AMD’s rule-book, using the mult-chip module design for its next-gen design.

Samsung Exynos in trouble as major layoffs announcededit

When it comes to mobile processors, Qualcomm may be the household name but it’s far from being the only one. One of those, however, may be changing significantly and perhaps not for the better. Samsung has just posted a letter that reveals it will be laying off 290 employees at its R&D office in Austin, Texas that may see the end of Samsung’s custom ARM cores used in its Exynos chips. The situation with ARM processors is a bit more complicated than on x86 with Intel and AMD.

NVIDIA tops AI Inference benchmarks, also announces ‘World’s smallest super computer’ chip for AI tasksedit

Nvidia has topped an independent AI Inference benchmarking test called MLPerf. The test measures AI performance in data-centres and at the edge (on your phone, in robots, etc.) in several categories, all of which Nvidia managed to top. Much like children, AI needs to be taught to do things before it’s allowed into the wild. This is done by first training an AI model in a supercomputer, where it is brought up on a diet of data. The idea is that the AI munches through this data and figures out how to deduce information from it, in other words, the AI learns to infer.

Best Gaming CPUs: Intel Coffee Lake vs AMD Ryzen (2019)edit

In a gaming-focused build, the graphics card is the most important component, but that doesn’t mean you should ignore the CPU part of it. This can cause CPU bottlenecks, preventing your GPU from fully realizing its potential. Furthermore, like a GPU bottleneck, you can’t really do much here. Lowering the settings will only make the matter worse. It’s best to go with a processor that compliments the GPU, but at the same time, it’s not advisable to spend too much on it. As a thumb rule, the CPU should be cheaper than the graphics card in gaming builds.

Screen tearing and input lag are two of the most dreaded issues in PC gaming. What do they mean though? Screen tearing essentially occurs when parts of multiple frames are displayed simultaneously, resulting in this: It looks as though the frame has been stretched and torn into three parts, thereby the name “tearing”. Input lag is rather straight-forward: you press a key and there’s a delay before you see the result. These two problems, although, may not seem like much, can be the cause of victory or defeat in fast-paced eSports games and first-person shooters.

And that’s because PC elements for mobile devices need to be made efficient in terms of thermals and power consumption, which is why a graphics card for a laptop needs to be de-tuned in order to keep it working normally without melting the internals.

At 27-inches, it is big enough to be used at a desk where the viewing distance is generally about 1 to 2 feet while gaming. The monitor gets sufficiently bright with 350 nits of peak brightness and has support for AMD FreeSync. The XG270HU is a great monitor for high-resolution gaming.

Almost a year later, the game launched for PC yesterday and I played it a bit to check out its visual fidelity and performance. While the game deals with early American imperialism and bandits trying to survive the new frontier, the game is much more enjoyable as it looks better on PC. That’s true for almost any game that is not limited by a console’s hardware and the same applies to Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC too.
