Of these 18, 12 pesticides have been banned from immediate effect (from August 9, 2018) and ban on another six will be implemented from December 31, 2020. The ban applies to registration, import, manufacture, formulation, transport, sale and use of all these pesticides.

The decision was taken by the Ministry of Agriculture after reports that insurance companies, banks are not settling claims of farmers for their crop loss despite insurance of crops.

To control the growing menace of stray cattle, the state government has decided to import “sexed semen” from US and British companies. Sexed semen is a breeding technology used to produce a calf of the desired sex. “The move will result in production of female calves only and there will be no male calves (bulls), which are major traffic hazards,” said Animal Husbandry Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu while talking to mediapersons here on Friday.
