Steps taken to curb stubble burningedit

The district administration has taken precautionary measures to curb the burning of paddy husk and stubble during the coming paddy harvesting season.According to Deputy Commissioner Vinay Singh, besides receiving a resolution from every gram panchayat against the burning of paddy husk and stubble, the administration has constituted mobile teams — comprising village Sarpanch, Numbardar, Patwari, Panchayat Secretary as members — in every village to inform the administration about any violation of rules.

Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said the data reveals that in 2014-15, 1.67 lakh hectares of land in the district was under paddy cultivation and the total production of paddy was 6.16 lakh metric tonnes. In 2015-16, the area under paddy cultivation was 1.68 lakh hectare and production was 6.53 lakh metric tonnes, in 2016-17, the area was 1.70 lakh hectares and production was 6.99 lakh metric tonnes and in 2017-18, the area under paddy cultivation was 1.71 lakh hectares and production was 7.15 lakh metric tonnes.
