Punjab’s cure to burning stubble lands farmers in pest troubleedit
The Punjab government’s latest solution to stubble burning may have resulted in fresh trouble for farmers — stray growth of paddy on fields in which wheat has been sown with the help of Happy Seeder. Happy Seeder is a farm equipment which drills wheat seeds into a field without removing paddy stubble. The state government had been suggesting it to farmers during this sowing season to bring down incidents of stubble burning. However, with paddy stubble now starting to grow, farmers fear their fields would turn into breeding grounds for insects and rodents, and ultimately affect yield.
