Bihar has 51 lakh registered farmersedit

Agriculture department principal secretary Sudhir Kumar on Friday said the government has so far registered 51 lakh farmers in the state.“Collection of data is in progress for registration of more farmers,” Kumar said while addressing a workshop on ‘Building evidence in agriculture: Reviewing data systems and the way forward’, organised by the International Growth Centre (IGC) in collaboration with the Indian Agricultural Statistics and Research Institute (IASRI) and the Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI) here.

US, Canada move WTO against India on ‘under-reporting’ of MSP for five pulsesedit

The US and Canada on Friday said they have jointly approached the World Trade Organisation (WTO) against India for allegedly “under-reporting” market price support for five varieties of pulses and have submitted their own steeper calculations for scrutiny of members. “Based on United States/Canadian calculations, it appears that India has substantially underreported its market price support for chickpeas, pigeon peas, black matpe, mung beans and lentils,” a US Department of Agriculture release stated.
