The state agriculture department has been taking necessary steps to come up with full-fledged seed testing and certification for all vegetable seeds, officials said in Madurai on Friday. They were speaking during the sidelines of a state-level refresher training on seed inspection procedures organised by the department of seed certification and organic certification held at Agricultural College and Research Institute in Madurai.

Agriculture connections in the district will be supplied power in two phases during summer, APEPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Kandula Raja Bapayaa said. During an official visit to Rajamahendravaram on Friday, he said the farmers would get power between 1 am to 9 am and 9 am to 6 pm.

Union minister of state for panchayati raj, agriculture and farmers welfare, Parshottam Rupala, called for boosting the earnings of farmers from allied sectors to help double farmers’ income on Friday. Rupala was speaking as the guest of honour at the Gujarat Cooperative Convention organized in Gandhinagar. “The income of farmers cannot be increased merely through farming activity. We need to boost their income through horticulture and dairy, among other allied sectors to agriculture. Cooperatives must undertake initiatives in this direction,” said Rupala
