A workshop cum convention was organised on Tuesday by Department of Agriculture, Sub Division Udhampur under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY).The programme was held in Convention Hall of Sub Divisional Agriculture Office, Udhampur. Dignitaries of department, experts from SKUAST Jammu and KVK as well as field staff of all zones and large number of farmers including women attended the programme. Ajay Sharma, Distt Agriculture Officer Udhampur welcomed the farmers and spurred them up to get technical know-how with such Workshops. He laid stressed for preservation of all local water bodies and stop their deterioration and neglect.

The focus on rural India in the elections boils down to simple arithmetics—only 57 of the 542 parliamentary constituencies in India are urban, while as many as 342 seats are rural (another 144 are semi-urban), according to numbers based on Census 2011 classification. A constituency is marked ‘urban’ if more than 75% of the constituents live in urban areas.

President Donald Trump’s 2020 budget on Monday proposed a 15 percent cut for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, calling its subsidies to farmers “overly generous” at a time when they are going through the worst crisis in decades because of depressed commodity prices and Trump’s trade tariffs. The Republicanpresident’s budget requested $20.8 billion for the USDA, a cut of $3.6 billion, or 15 percent, from the 2019 estimate, according to the proposed budget text. It proposes reducing premium subsidies for crop insurance, limiting the number of producers who would be eligible and tightening commodity payment limits.
