With nearly half of India’s working population involved in agriculture, the percentage share of gross value added of agriculture and allied sectors to the total economy has increased to 20.2 per cent in 2020-2021 from 17.6 per cent in 2018-19 thanks to a string of policy measures as well as increased budgetary allocation towards the sector since 2016. Farmers want quality norms eased in paddy procurementedit

Several farmers in Beguniapada block of Ganjam district staged road blockade for the second day on Tuesday, demanding that their paddy be procured at minimum support price (MSP) irrespective of the quality. Farmers with paddy bags staged a road blockade at Sumandal main road. The officials along with the police visited the spot and tried to placate the agitating farmers, chief district supply officer (CDSO), Ganjam Pusha Munda, said.
