Niranjan Reddy wants credit leverage to be increased for agri sectoredit

Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy wanted the bankers to extend their support and credit for oil palm cultivation, which was being promoted on a large scale in the State.Recognising the importance of sustainable agriculture, the State Government was encouraging farmers towards alternate crops as part of crop diversification, he said. Under this initiative, the State Government was moving ahead with a long term plan of promoting oil palm cultivation. Ganjam farmers intensify stir over paddy procurementedit

Farmers in Ganjam district intensified their agitation over paddy procurement on Thursday. Several peasants staged a dharna at Laxminarayanpur and blocked road at Polsara by felling trees. The farmers have been agitating for the past four days at Sumandal, Burujhari and Sankuda in Beguniapada block, demanding their paddy to be procured at minimum support price (MSP), irrespective of its quality. “We demanded the procurement process to be expedited as the validity of token, needed to supply the grain, will end in two days,” said Ashok Mallick, a farmer of Laxminarayanpur.
