Punjab seeks ₹29,000-crore cash credit limit for wheat procurementedit

As the food and civil supplies department gears up for wheat procurement from April 1, the Punjab government has sought a cash credit limit (CCL) of ₹29,000 crores from the Centre. According to the state agriculture department estimates, wheat production is likely to cross 170 lakh tonnes this rabi season, out of which 135 lakh tonnes is expected to arrive for procurement by the four state agencies and Centre’s Food Corporation of India (FCI). To reduce MSP burden, MP to start crop diversification schemeedit

Fearing that growing wheat could increase burden on state exchequer, the Madhya Pradesh government will start an incentive scheme to discourage farmers from growing wheat. Unlike wheat, there will be no minimum support price (MSP) for other crop-diversification, officials said. The MP government has done the highest wheat procurement of 356 lakh metric tonnes in 2020 and the government has paid ₹25,311 crore to farmers. In the past five years, wheat production increased from 219 lakh M T to 356 lakh MT, shows agriculture department data. Tractor market to uptick from mid next year: CNH Industrialedit

The tractor market, which has been seeing a decline in sales the past few months, will see an uptick starting the middle of next year, said agri machinery and construction equipment maker CNH Industrial. Raunak Varma, Managing Director, CNH Industrial India, said given low farm mechanisation levels, India has the potential to sell over 10 million tractors in the ongoing decade. “Tractor sales have declined the past few months because of high base and inflation. Long-term, though, there is a huge potential for growth in the tractor and farm equipment segment.
