Andhra Pradesh to expand electronic marketing of agriculture producesedit

Riding on the success of pilot project implemented in four districts, the state government has decided to expand the electronic marketing of agriculture produces to other districts. The pilot project was implemented in Chittoor, Kurnool, Ananthapuram and Kadapa districts where 6 crore worth transactions were handled in the last few months. The move aims at providing more options to the farmers to market their produce and help them gain more profits. The state government will also certify the quality of the produce before displaying the stocks on mobile app or web portal. Prioritising growth in agriculture and allied sectors, the Chhattisgarh budget has proposed several provisions, including allocation of Rs 200 crores for CHIRAAG Project for nutrition security, improvement in the economic condition of farmers and generation of additional income from value addition of agricultural produce in 25 development blocks of 14 selected districts of Maoist-affected Bastar and Surguja divisions. Chhattisgarh will get its first National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories accredited phytosanitary laboratory for testing pesticide residues in food items worth Rs 1.50 crore. Union Minister Kailash Choudhary on Wednesday said only about Rs 8,000 crore was availed under the government’s Rs 1 lakh crore Agri Infrastructure Fund last year despite creating awareness among farmers, and called on the farming community to take advantage of the scheme. With the price offered for paddy straw falling, farmers who are harvesting Samba paddy belatedly are facing a loss of revenue. According to sources, Samba and Thalady paddy has been cultivated in 1.37 lakh hectares during this season in the district. Of this, 1.12 lakh hectares have so far been harvested. Paddy crop on 25,000 hectares is yet to be harvested. As the straw of Kuruvai paddy used to get drenched in north east monsoon rains, traders usually buy the straw during Samba season.
