First Time In Country, TS Records Crop Diversification Patterns in The Form of Indexedit
Krishi Jagran – Online
Telangana has started documenting crop diversification trends in the form of an index for the first time in the country, following the paddy procurement row with the Centre and the state government asking farmers to opt for alternate crops. According to the crop diversification index, the state grows 77 varieties, with roughly 10 crops, predominantly grains, favored for diversification. In the state, Nirmal, Vikarabad, and Sangareddy are more diverse. It was also discovered that Peddapalli, Karimnagar, and Suryapet were the three least diverse areas. Surprisingly, in these regions where paddy farming is common, the maize cropping area has declined dramatically while the cotton cropping area has expanded. According to state officials, the score will serve ...

Good News for Dairy Farmers: New Project to Increase Production Capacity of Kangayam Cowsedit
Krishi Jagran – Online
The Veterinary University Training and Research Centre (VUTRC) in Tirupur district is about to embark on a project to reduce the calving interval of Kangayam cows. Kangayam cows normally have a calving interval of 16 months. The doctors at the institution want to offer hormone (progesterone) therapy to the cattle using NABARD funding, which might shorten the calving interval by two to three months. “The Kangayam cattle breed is noted for its performance in farming, VUTRC assistant professor Dr. U Lakshmikantan told. As Korangadu land (traditional grazing ground) became scarce, numerous farmers were compelled to graze their cattle in cramped quarters. With this difficulty, the farmers face an extra burden when the cow breeds have anestrus ...

India focuses on hi-tech agriculture to make farmers self-reliantedit
ThePrint – Online
With the purpose of making farmers self-reliant the government has decided to make agriculture hi-tech in this year’s Union Budget. It is a high priority sector for India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The government has made provisions to develop it in a new way by moving beyond traditional farming. From rural housing to chemical-free agriculture, a five-kilometer-wide corridor along the Ganges, and water for irrigation in Bundelkhand through the Ken-Betwa link project, all of this ensures that the Budget caters to the needs of every Indian. A new public-private partnership (PPP) scheme will be launched to deliver digital and high-tech services to farmers. “Kisan Drones” will be used for crop assessment, digitisation of land records and ...
What are the risks of using artificial intelligence in agricultureedit
CNBC TV18 – Online
Although artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to improve crop management and agricultural productivity, there are substantial risk factors in deploying new AI technologies that are not being considered, warn researchers. “The ramifications of machine learning (ML) models, expert systems and autonomous machines for farms, farmers and food security are poorly understood and under-appreciated,” authors of the risk study published in the journal Nature recently said. The academics reviewed the risk of AI in agriculture-related to interoperability, safety and security, reliability of data and unintended socio-ecological consequences arising from the use of ML models to optimise yields. AI can be used in agriculture to improve crop management and productivity by rapidly identifying plant diseases and ...

FarmPrecise App is Precisely What Farmers Need Right Now: Ajay Shelkeedit
Krishi Jagran – Online
Watershed Organisation Trust (WOTR), a globally recognized organization dedicated to changing the lives of millions of poor villagers across India through participatory watershed development, ecosystem restoration and climate-resilient sustainable agriculture. Climate change and increasing weather uncertainty have made agriculture and farming a high-risk gamble. Rising costs of agricultural inputs, low and declining productivity, market volatility, low returns, and erratic weather patterns are making farming an unviable source of livelihoods and income, especially for smallholder farmers, who constitute at least 85% of the farming community in India. To address these challenges, WOTR has developed a mobile application, “FarmPrecise” that provides farmers a weather-based, dynamic decision support system they can customize to their specific crops and farm ...

More than 20,000 MT of Biomass Used in 7 NCR Thermal Plantsedit
Krishi Jagran – Online
Around 20,830 metric tonnes of biomass, including rice straw, have been used in seven thermal power plants in the NCR so far, with a tender procedure for another 43 lakh metric tonnes currently underway. According to data provided at a session on agricultural stubble management held last week by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) as part of a discussion on strategies to decrease air pollution in Delhi-NCR. One technique to reduce stubble burning is to use paddy straw in power plants. CAQM member secretary Arvind Nautiyal said the commission had issued statutory directives to 11 thermal power plants within a 300-kilometer radius of Delhi to mandate the co-firing of biomass with coal ...
