A parliamentary panel on agriculture in its report, tabled in Parliament on Thursday, noted that the government is far from its 2022 goal of doubling the income of farmers which the Centre had announced six years ago. Though the panel, a standing committee headed by BJP Lok Sabha member P C Gaddigoudar, appreciated the Centre’s efforts in increasing the monthly agricultural household income from Rs 8,059 in 2015-16 to Rs 10,218 in 2018-19, it flagged how income in some states like Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland and Odisha declined during the period. A lasting solution to the problem of procurement of Rabi paddy from Telangana remained elusive even after the state Ministers discussed the issue with Union Consumers and Food and Public Distribution Minister Piyush Goyal in Delhi on Thursday.After the meeting, Goyal termed the TRS government as “Kisan Virodhi Sarkar” for “misleading” the farmers of Telangana that the Union government was not procuring the paddy from the state.
