Asserting that the government is giving top priority to agriculture sector, Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath urged bankers to lend more to farmers. He also said the government laid special emphasis on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and urged the bankers to encourage industrialists. Chairing the 220th meeting of the State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) at the Secretariat on Tuesday, Buggana reviewed the progress of various banks in implementation of the Annual Credit Plan for 2022-23 and also sector-wise targets. He said banks are playing a key role in the comprehensive development of the State and hailed the support of banks in the effective implementation of several development and welfare schemes.

The Haryana government is working on a plan to buy paddy straw at minimum support price in a bid to find a permanent solution to the issue of stubble burning, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Tuesday. He was speaking at a meeting chaired by Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav on crop residue management and air pollution control in the Delhi-NCR region. “Working in the direction of finding a permanent solution for stubble management, the state government is also making a plan to buy paddy straw at MSP. Relax norms for procurement of paddy, says Tamil Nadu to Centreedit

Days after several farmers’ associations protested across the delta region urging the government to procure paddy with higher moisture content, the State government on Tuesday wrote to the Union government seeking relaxation of the moisture norm from 17% to 22%. The State also assured that paddy procured under the relaxed moisture norm will be hulled immediately and the rice will conform to the Centre’s specifications. Protests erupted after direct procurement centres, citing the Centre’s norms, refused to procure paddy with 19-22% moisture content. Days before the Prime Minister Office’s October 14 review meeting on air pollution in Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR), Uttar Pradesh chief secretary (CS) Durga Shankar Mishra has issued a slew of directions to officials and asked them to strictly curb the incidents of stubble and garbage burning in the state.
