Action plan to provide farmers seed minikits gets Cabinet nodedit

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Thursday approved an action plan to distribute seed minikits containing seeds of lentils and gram to help out farmers whose crops were destroyed due to delayed monsoon and the excessive rain that lashed the state recently. The Cabinet also approved a proposal to set aside a corpus of Rs 32 crore for the plan under the category of subsidy for certified seeds. Several districts in Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal where sowing of kharif crops was less than 75% due to deficiency in rains during the monsoon season, are likely to go in for early rabi planting, said a senior official from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare. “West Bengal has provided alternative seeds to over 1,00,000 farmers. Now the state would go for early rabi crops,” said the official, who did not want to be named.

The union environment ministry on Thursday released guidelines for grant of one-time financial support for establishment of pelletisation and torrefaction plants to promote utilisation of paddy stubble in thermal power plants and industries.
