Wheat MSP hiked by 5.5% amid depleting stocksedit

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Wednesday approved increases in the range of 2-9.1% in the minimum support prices (MSPs) of six rabi crops for the 2023-24 (July-June) marketing season. The MSP for wheat, the key winter crop, has been hiked by Rs 110 (5.5%) to Rs 2,125 per quintal, which will fetch the farmer returns over cost of 100%, the government said in a statement. The MSP hikes, which are neither steep nor modest, come at a time when food inflation is elevated. Delhi govt begins spraying bio-decomposer in fields to prevent stubble burningedit

The Delhi government started spraying bio-decomposer on agricultural fields across the capital to prevent stubble burning. This year, the government aims to spray bio-decomposer over 5000 acres of agricultural land and the development department has formed 21 teams for the same. The government will spray bio-decomposer free-of-cost on all Basmati as well as non-Basmati agricultural fields. The farmers have already filled the form expressing interest in spraying bio-decomposer on their agricultural fields. Environment Minister Gopal Rai said, “The Delhi government has prepared a 15-point Winter Action Plan to fight pollution. This also includes tackling the issue of stubble burning, one of the biggest factors in the increase in pollution during winters in Delhi.”

The Punjab government has claimed that owing to its efforts, the incidents of stubble burning in the state have seen a sharp decline from last year and it has also resulted in improved air quality of the state. Citing data from Punjab Remote Sensing Centre (PRSC), state Science Technology and Environment Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer on Tuesday said that 1,847 cases of stubble burning were reported across the state from September 15 to October 17 this year as compared to 2,389 and 5,562 cases in corresponding period during the year 2021 and 2020.
