Tomar said that a high-level steering committee would be formed under the chairmanship of Agriculture Minister for overall guidance of the Agriculture Startup ecosystem. A Rs. 500 crore accelerator programme for taking forward and popularizing the successful initiatives of Agri Startups will also be started. Committee on MSP to hold 3rd meeting on October 31 in Bhubaneswaredit

The government’s committee on the minimum support price (MSP), natural farming and crop diversification is scheduled to hold its third meeting on October 31 in Bhubaneswar. In the first meeting held on August 22 in the national capital, the committee — headed by former Agriculture Secretary Sanjay Agrawal — had formed three internal sub-groups to deliberate on the mandated topics. The second meeting, held on September 27 in Hyderabad, deliberated on organic farming. The panel has 26 members including the chairman, while three membership slots are kept aside for representatives of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM). But the SKM has rejected the committee and decided to stay away from the meeting.

‘Poor’ AQI in Haryana’s 3 major paddy districts as farm fires riseedit

The air quality in Haryana’s three major paddy growing districts of Kaithal, Karnal and Kurukshetra was on Wednesday recorded as ‘poor’ due to surging farm fires as they have till date contributed 64 per cent of the total 586 incidents of stubble burning reported in the state. As per the air quality bulletin of the Central Pollution Control Board, the AQI of Kaithal Kurukshetra and Karnal was recorded at 269, 206, 216 respectively on Wednesday, falling in the ‘poor’ category. CNH Industrial celebrates 5 years of preventing crop stubble burning at Kallar Majri in Punjabedit

CNH Industrial today celebrated five years of its “Prevention of Crop Stubble Burning/Straw Management” initiative in India. Thanks to this project Kallar Majri in Punjab has been near smoke-free for five years. CNH Industrial congratulated the village’s farmers for opting for a sustainable solution – baling instead of burning crop stubble. Following the project’s success, this initiative has been introduced to 10 additional locations in Haryana, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. It has raised farmers’ awareness of the benefits of baling versus burning, with more villages adopting this environment-friendly solution. Centre, states meet to discuss check on stubble burningedit

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Wednesday chaired an inter-ministerial meeting with the states on the issues of crop residue management. The meeting was also attended by Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav and Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Parshottam Rupala. “The three ministers held intense discussions with the states to check the burning of stubble,” the Agriculture Ministry said in a statement.
