Northeast India sees over 85% agricultural product export growth in last 6 yearsedit

India’s northeast region has witnessed more than 85% growth in the export of agricultural products over the last six years, the Ministry of Commerce & Industry said on Friday. “Export has reached to $17.2 million in 2021-22 from $2.52 million in 2016-17. The major destinations of export has been Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Middle East, the UK, and Europe,” it added. There has been a significant increase in export of agricultural produce from northeastern states of Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Meghalaya. Govt Plans to Establish 750 Price Monitoring Centres Across Country by March 31st 2023edit

Centre is making every effort, through the Price Monitoring Division, to control the prices of essential commodities, thereby keeping inflation under control. The Department of Consumer Affairs regularly generates price data and maintains a price collection system for 22 essential food commodities in the country. The workshop was organized in collaboration with the Government of Assam to address consumer protection issues in the North Eastern states. During his inaugural address, the Secretary explained how the Department, National Commission, State Commissions, and District Commissions, as well as the entire ecosystem, are working together to protect consumer interests in terms of quality, quantity, standards, testing, and benchmarks via BIS, NTH, Legal Metrology, and the National Consumer Helpline.

Good news for FCI: Paddy procurement up by 13% at 32.9 million tonneedit

Two months since the commencement of paddy procurement by the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and state government agencies for the current kharif season (2022-23)s, the total purchase till Thursday was up by 13% on year at 32.9 million tonne (MT). Higher grain procurement is expected to boost rice stocks held by FCI that have been depleted by the free ration scheme – Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana since April, 2020. The scheme is extended for the seventh time till December 31, 2022. FCI currently has 14 MT of rice, against the buffer of 7.6 MT for January 1.
