A unique FinTech and AgriTech startup company, Growpital has put Rajasthan’s small TaraTara Math Village of Barmer on the national front by bagging a unique farming project. Growpital has bagged in the potato production contract, giving employment opportunities to farmers of this village across 25 acres of land from McCain Foods India. Barmer district lies in the Thar desert on the border with Pakistan. Dry weather and lack of groundwater for centuries had left no choice for the region but to cultivate limited crops such as bajra, chana, cumin, etc. In recent years, Barmer has started shaping lush fields of vegetables or orchards of fruits due to innovations in agriculture science and farmers’ hard work.

The agricultural engineering department, in the month of October, handed out as many as 31 tractors to Tiruchy, which is the district’s share of the total of 185 tractors allotted to the delta districts by the state government. The high inrush of tractors spelled relief to farmers who were left a worried lot over a lack of equipment. Six of the tractors received have already been put into use, sources said. India says GM technology important for food security, import reductionedit

India said on Thursday it was important for it to adopt farming technologies like genetically modified (GM) crops to ensure food security and cut a reliance on imports, as it tries to boost the output of edible oils for its huge population. The environment ministry in October granted environmental clearance for indigenously developed GM mustard seeds, potentially paving the way for a commercial release of the country’s first food crop in about two years. Cotton is the only GM crop now allowed for cultivation in India. More than 60% of India’s total edible oil demand is met through imports from countries such as Indonesia and Malaysia, as well as the Black Sea region.

Kharif season 2022-23: Paddy procurement gathers pace in Chhattisgarhedit

Paddy procurement for the kharif marketing season 2022-23 is progressing smoothly across Chhattisgarh even as the state government procured over 3 million tonnes (MT) till early this week. The state government started the paddy procurement from November 1 and it would continue till January 31. Chhattisgarh is among the few states in the country that is purchasing paddy from the farmers at minimum support price (MSP).
