MoU signed between space and agriculture departments to develop Krishi Decision Support Systemedit

The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Department of Space signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop the Krishi-Decision Support System (Krishi-DSS) using geospatial technologies and related databases for enhancing evidence-based decision making capability of all the stakeholders in the agriculture sector. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare is developing Krishi-DSS, a decision support system, on the lines of Gati Shakti, using RISAT-1A and VEDAS of Department of Space. This will enhance the evidence-based decision-making capability of all the stakeholders in the agriculture sector by way of integration with MOSDAC and BHUVAN (Geo-platform) of ISRO and systems of ICAR.

Senior officials of the ministry, professors from ISB, UoS, LSHTM, and senior representatives from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, MicroSave Consulting (MSC) and Policy Development and Advisory Group (PDAG) were present on occasion.

The ‘Masahati’ survey (a survey of un-surveyed villages) brings joy to the tribal residents of Abujhmad (meaning unfamiliar land) in Narayanpur district, south Chhattisgarh, as for the first time over 2,200 farmers sold their paddy at the minimum support price during the ongoing procurement by the state government for Kharif marketing year 2022-23. 30% drop In Punjab’s stubble burning cases: How reliable is the data?edit

On December 5, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) announced a 30% drop in the number of open fire incidents in Punjab and a 48% drop in Haryana during this year’s paddy stubble burning season from September 15 to November 30. But experts say that satellite data alone are not enough to establish an actual decrease in stubble burning.
