In this regard today, Minister of State for Agriculture Shobha Karandlaje reviewed the preparations with the senior Agriculture and ICAR officials. The government on Friday told Parliament that Rs 2.24 lakh crore has gone directly into the accounts of 11.5 crore farmers across the country under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi. Replying to supplementaries in the Rajya Sabha, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Kailash Choudhary said the agriculture budget under the Modi government has gone up from Rs 23,000 crore in 2013 to this year’s Rs 1,32,000 crore. “Of this, more than half, which is around Rs 65,000 crore, is being paid directly to farmers through DBT… An amount of Rs 2,24,000 crore has gone directly into the accounts of 11.5 crore farmers as part of Kisan Samman Nidhi,” he told the ...

The waters may have receded in Medhipamua and over 500 villages of the country’s most flood-prone Dhemaji district, bordering Arunachal Pradesh, but peoples’ woes are far from over as the sand deposited by the mighty Brahmaputra and its tributaries pose a serious threat to their primary livelihood of paddy cultivation. Agriculture is the mainstay of Assam’s worst flood-hit district, which was once considered the ‘rice bowl’ of the state and its community, mostly comprising the Mising tribe though in some areas there is a mixed population of Hajong, Bodo and Sonowal tribes along with Nepalis who live in villages located along the river.

Nigeria Launches 10-Year Document to Achieve Rice Self-Sufficiencyedit

The German International Cooperation (GIZ) backs the 10-year plan, which will be implemented from 2020 to 2030. It aims to guide the development of the rice subsector to achieve the government’s goals of self-sufficiency in rice production, food and nutrition security, job creation, and surplus production for export. During the launch in Abuja, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Baba Shehuri, explained that CARP, formerly known as the Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP), is a platform dedicated to the productivity and sustainability of the rice industry to ensure the competitiveness of Nigerian rice and the sustainability of the Nigeria rice sector.
