IRRI signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of National Development Planning (BAPPENAS) during the workshop along with a Letter of Intent to collaborate with the Indonesian Agency for Agricultural Instrument Standardization (IAAIS) of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia. Furthermore, IRRI also signed a ‘Letter of Agreement’ with Viamo, the country’s leading telecom service provider, to implement its Rice Crop Manager (RCM) Project. The RCM Project will create and disseminate a digital agriculture platform that will provide science-based information to help rice production become more efficient.

Telangana to disburse ₹7600 cr to farmers under ‘Rythu Bandhu’ scheme from 28 Decedit

K Chandrasekhar Rao, the chief minister of Telangana, gave T Harish Rao, the state’s finance minister, instructions on Sunday to begin disbursing the crop investment-Rythu Bandhu funds for the yasangi harvest (rabi) season on 28 December. An official release from the CMO stated that the Rythu Bandhu funds, starting from one acre as usual, would be credited to the accounts of all farmers by Sankranthi and for this, the State government would deposit ₹7,600 crore in their bank accounts.

Tractors are having a field day. In September, even before the festival season began, India’s domestic tractor sales witnessed a sharp 23% growth y-o-y. Even if that is dismissed as an anomaly, the numbers available for April November have registered a solid 9% growth and point towards a possible milestone for the tractor industry —domestic sales, which have already touched 678,869 units, could cross 900,000 units a year for the first time. Tractor exports, which account for roughly 15% of domestic sales, have been excluded from this estimate.
