Despite rain loss, wheat yield set to cross 160 lakh tonnes, says Agri deptedit

The total wheat yield in Punjab is expected to cross 160 lakh tonnes in the current rabi season. The state agriculture department has pegged production based on crop-cutting experiments. It is less than the earlier production estimates of a bumper crop when the yield was predicted to cross 175 lakh tonnes before the rainfall, high-velocity winds and hailstorm that began on March 25 and continued till April 5. Underlining the development in various sectors during the Bharatiya Janata Party’s rule in Karnataka, Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday said the poll-bound state is on a “good trajectory” of growth and needs “stability and continuity of policies” to ensure that the developmental agenda does not derail.
