Farmers received 15.23 lakh agri machinery under Central scheme since 2014-15edit

The Centre has provided 15.23 lakh agricultural machinery and equipment to farmers under the Centrally-sponsored scheme “Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanisation” (SMAM), according to Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister. Replying to a query in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, he said SMAM is being implemented through state governments since 2014-15 for promoting agricultural mechanisation in the country.

Rainfall comes as a boon for paddy and jute cultivatorsedit

Rainfall since Monday has emerged as a boon for paddy plantations along with jute cultivators in South Dinajpur district. Suman Sutradhar, weather department official, Majhian said: “From Monday 8.30 am to Tuesday 2 pm, the total rainfall recorded in this district was 214.4 mm. There is a forecast of moderate to light rainfall for the next two days.” According to him, there has been no deficit rainfall in August so far. “However, there had been a deficit of 20 per cent rainfall in July and 40 per cent in June. We hope that there will be sufficient rainfall in August,” he added.

Rajasthan show interest in buying paddy stubble from Punjabedit

A team of officials led by a principal secretary rank officer from Rajasthan on Tuesday met the officers of the state agriculture department to work out modalities and logistics for the transfer of paddy from Punjab to the neighbouring state.
