Telangana Cabinet approves Rs 500 bonus to paddy farmersedit
Fulfilling yet another poll promise made during Assembly polls, the Congress government has decided to give Rs 500 per quintal bonus to paddy farmers producing ‘sanna vadlu’ (fine quality paddy) from the upcoming kharif season (June-September). The decision was taken in the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at the Secretariat on Monday. The government has decided to utilise sanna vadlu procured from farmers to produce sanna biyyam (fine quality rice) for supplying to students in hostels run by welfare departments and also students in government schools.

Data from Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) shows farm fire incidents in Uttar Pradesh have doubled this season compared to the previous year. From April 1 to May 20 this year, a total of 13,727 farm fire incidents were reported, compared to 6,426 in the same period last year.
